Okay.. I swear that all my glasses/bottles I drink from are continually and secretly refilling!!!!!!! I had my protien this morning for 12 oz. of water, then have been drinking ice tea (decaf) all day... ALL DAY. I'm taking as big of swigs as I can, and doing it as often as I can without feeling sick... and guess what.. I've only consumed about 12 oz.s of the tea! It's very dicouraging... I have not met my water intake goal once since surgery 7 weeks ago. isn't this nuts????? If I try to drink more, or more often I feel extrememly nausious. How in the heck do you get it all in? I force myself to drink, which is very depressing. It's like making yourself take medicine a bazillion times a day. It's hard to drink when you're not thirsty! I also don't drink for half an hour after eating.. and since I have a difficult time getting in my calories and protien, that consists of 6 or so small meals a day.. Wow...I sound like a lunatic! I'm just miffed! Kim

I fill up my 32 oz bottle twice a day at work so anything I drink at home is extra. I just take sips every couple of minutes or so. Today I'm not so good though, I've been really busy working on inventory and forgot to drink and take my meds. Shame on me. I'm now playing catch up. I got all my meds and I'm working on my 2nd bottle of Green Tea.

Kim - I too had a hard time getting my water in. In the beginning it's very hard, but I'm here to tell you it does get easier as time goes by. I can now drink a 20 oz bottle of water in about 1/2 hour (if REALLY trying to get it all in). With six meals per day it is a challenge. I had to switch to that eatting schedule as well and i'm still on a six meal per day diet. But if you don't drink 1/2 hour before or after meals then that gives you one hour to drink in between each meal. Just keep sipping!!!!! It'll get better, really it will!!! Hugs, Laurie

Hi Kim I had the same problem . Here is what i did to fix it..... i made small goals throughout the day. I made sure to have 20 ounces in by noon, 50 by 6pm and the rest by bedtime. i also set the alarm to remind me to eat, or else i'd forget cause i stayed full from the water. You'll learn the trick, it takes time. Hugs Linda

Hang in there Kim it does get easier.........just as all the others said. I am 10 weeks out and can now drink a 16 oz bottle of water right down if i keep at it. I think sometimes I might be drinking too fast because I will get the lump in my chest. I dont normally drink more then the 64 oz but it has become much easier to get in. Not to scare you but when I was at the start of my stricture I was having trouble getting water in. I would drink a protien drink for breakfast and was darn lucky if i could have 8 oz in me by lunch. The worse the stricture got the harder it was for me to eat and drink, by the time I had it fixed water made me vomit. You might want to run your concern by your surgeon. Stacy

Hey there Kim, I know where you are coming from. I had surgery the 17th of July and there are days that I still have a problem. My nut told me as long as you get in 80% of your fluid and protein you are doing ok. So, if you feel you can't get in 100% try for the 80% and then slowly try for the 100%. That is what I am doing. It is so hard to drink when it is so hot. LOL I don't want ANYTHING. This whole thing feels like a full time job. But they say with time it gets easier. Let's pray it is true. Best of luck girl, Di 254/221/154

give it time. at your stage i too found it almost impossible to get enough liquids. be patient with yourself. one thing that helped me was to keep water by my bed and to drink some everytime i woke up during the night and as soon as i woke in the morning. it gave me a good head start on the daily intake.

I had similar problems when I was early out. Heck, I still have days where it's hard to get all my water in if I don't really concentrate on it. Early out I started with a 32 oz bottle. I, like you, felt like I drank ALL day and would hardly make a dent in the 32 oz. So, I went to Sam's and bought a case of those small water bottles (the 8oz bottles). I put them in the fridge and drank 8 throughout the day. It was sort of a mental game and it seemed to work. I found it much easier to get my water in or at least get as much in as I possibly could. I eventually "graduated" to a 24 oz sport bottle. Did those for a while. Then I got back to my 32 oz bottle and was able to easily get that in. I did this over several months. I did the 8oz bottles for a while. I also drank hot decaf tea for MONTHS. I had a 16 oz mug and for whatever reason, I could easily drink one of those mugs of tea. I know it's hard early out. Eventually, you will figure out what works for you which may not be ANYTHING near what has worked for others. But you'll figure it out. It does get easier....or we just learn to deal with it better! Hi Kim, I think we all have been through it. I'll be 3 yrs in January and still have a hard time sometimes. You really have to be determined to drink it. It seems like it's easier when I work out, I actually get thirsty. Take care, Carey
