HELP!!!! Embarrassing problem......
I've not wanted to ask this but I so need some . This last surgery has been more difficult than my RNY and has taken a bit of a toll on my body.
After my surgery I had about 3 days of constipation. I finally took a Dulcolax laxative and everything was fine. I've been regular ever since, however those 3 days have caused me a serious case of hemroids. I've not had hemroids in over 22 years.
Now it's a vicious circle. I have to go, but it hurts so bad so now the constipation is back. I'm drinking plenty of water, excess in fact. I can correct the constipation problem (unless it's just fear holding everything together) I've tried everything over the counter and nothing is working. Even with my pain pills the pain remains. Now my intestines are cramping, I can't stand, sit, walk without MAJOR pain.
Does anyone have any recommendations? ANYTHING? I even tried sitting on ice covered by a towel .... didn't do a thing but make it hurt more.
I am miserable.

Wow, you poor thing!!!! That sounds so horrible. If you've tried the OTC products I'd suggest you put a call into your doctors office.
For long term.... I have to deal with this because I have to take a lot of iron supplements. I've found that for me, eating a bowl of oatmeal every morning keeps me completely regular!!! It's great! I eat Quaker Weight Control instant oatmeal. I just look for the most fiber and least sugar.
I hope things get worked out very soon!!!!

Yowie. That's a drag for sure. Well,,, ya gotta go. Of course load up on the water and Laurie's oatmeal trick works too but for instant relief you might want to invest in some glycerin suppositories. Yep. Butt missiles do the work real fast. Coat them roids with a healthy layer of nupercanal ointment then launch a missile in there. Within a half hour you will be going and when you are done do the nupercanal again. It's a tough row to hoe but you can do it.

Thank you KP!!! I first soaked in a nice hot bath hoping that would relax all of those muscles. When searching through my med cabinet (while DH was on his way to pick up the glycerin supp.), I found a tube of Emla cream (docs use it to numb areas) which has lidocaine 2.5% and prilocaine 2.5%. I treat with the nupercainal after.
I appreciate the advise.

You are welcome. Please read the medical advice disclaimer at the top of the board so I don't get my tit in a wringer.
Warm baths with epsom salts are good too.
Remember that what ever med you put in there can be absorbed directly into the system so make sure you are using things that are ok.
Good luck. I'm pullin for ya,,,,, That didn't sound good under the cir****tances.

Sheryl,
I completely feel your pain. Whenever I am on any pain meds that happens to me, so I always take a stool softener with those types of meds. Of course hind site is 20/20. Anyway, I would strongly urge you to see your doctor. I know a while back my father had to have surgery for them. Mine have not gotten that bad, but my last round of pain meds after my knee surgery did take it's toll. My best friend was the witch hazel pads (tucks) and the suppositories. Good Luck. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Sheryl-
I had this problem some time ago (not as bad as yours though); but finally have it under control.
Once you have the inflammation and swelling under control, it will be easier; but you will probable have to take something to keep your stool soft until you get rid of the inflammation and swelling. Isn't there some kind of suppository for this problem?
As a preventive now, I eat two chewable benefiber tablets each day and drink lots of water. I also eat a banana every morning ( I had low potassium at one point and just recently heard that potassium helps with bowel problems).
Would a warm bath help at all?
I hope you will find relief soon.
