HELP FINDING THE RIGHT DOCTOR
Hi All:
I am 4 years post op and have not been overall successful with my weight loss. Although I did loose 80 lbs, I have gained 35 of it back and am still severely obese. I had my surgery because of chronic health issues. After loosing the 80 lbs my health issues did not go away but they were manageable. Since I quite smoking about 9 months ago, this is when my weight ballooned back up. With this gain, my health problems are getting worse and now it is becoming almost impossible to function like it was before my surgery. The issue that keeps me from functioning primarily is chronic fatigue and other symptoms tied to my fatigue. This condition has existed for many years and is keeping me from a normal life. I have seen doctor after doctor about this and none of them can determine what is causing it or how to treat it. CPAP treatment for my OSA that I was told would help this condition, didn't. I was told it was due to depression but after medication treatment for that, the fatigue has continued to get worse. Loosing weight that I was told would help didn't yet but I know it will if I can get back on track.
I simply have not found a doctor who I felt was willing to look at root causes of my problem. With each doctor I try, I get the same repetition of return visits where the doctor doesn't remember my issues so I have to run through it every time. They always go Hmmm, and then only give me the same blood work ups and tests over and over again that turn up nothing. I have never had any resolution or a "plan" for a path to improvement.
After 8 years of this, I have lost faith in a doctor being able to help me yet I can't continue always feeling so poorly. I have to do something and I need medical help and hopefully answers or at least direction.
Now I am considering revision surgery, as I have not had the level success from my gastric bypass as I had wished and expected. Now I have no primary doctor who can advise me after giving up hope on my 3rd attempt to find one who can help me. I am praying that I can finally find a doctor who I really can trust to embrace my issues and hopefully help me. I'm also hoping to find one who has a lot of experience with post and pre-op bariatric surgery patients and the related health issues of morbid obesity.
I live in Metro Detroit but am willing to travel to see the right doctor for me. If anyone here has any recommendations on a doctor who I can accept as my primary doctor and can really help me, I would greatly appreciate it. As I mentioned, I have lost faith that I will find a solution to my issues and I'm desperate to find a doctor *****ally can help.
Thanks in advance for your help,
BA

Hi Kevin:
I read your profile and it is very inspiring. I love the 914. I also have one that I bought to do a 2.0L 6 conversion/club racer. Unfortunately my health has kept me from it and it has sat collecting dust for years.
I'm from lake Orion so Dr Weitz is very convenient. Has he been helpful with your journey?
I am considering a revision and actually am researching Sclerotherapy as a non-invasive option. I would like to give the diet one more shot before I make a decision to go surgical again.
I had a Roux-en-Y in April of 2002. From the very beginning it took me more food to fill up that what I was told and I was always hungry again very shortly after a meal. I never really experienced dumping from sugar and fat like I was told either. I rolled up the sleeves and bared it for 6 months but it was really no different that before the surgery. I lost 80 lbs, mostly in the first 3 months, but It was simply torture feeling starved all of the time so I could loose. Nonetheless, I gradually fell into bad habits. And although I maintained around the same weight for a few years, I was also smoking again. I fell back into that old habit again due to a very long stressful time in my career. I finally quit smoking again last December and since then, the weight has rapidly piled back on.
I added more about my WLS story in my profile.
Thanks for your recommendation; I think I will try to contact Dr. Weitz's office on Monday.
If you have some time, write me and tell me more about your 914.

I like Weitz a lot. He's about a thousand years old and tells you like it is. When you see him let him know you talked to me. I will help you out.
In the meanwhile search my posts and look for the plateau buster I posted and use it. Do it religiously for the next two weeks and you will lose again.
The Porsche is a 1.7 drilled out many years ago. I've owned it since 1984. It's a trip. I have a blast in it.

Hello,
You came to the right place to get good information and inspiration. I see that Kevin gave you some great advice and a lead to go on. I hope this works out for you. What is so important to me after WLS is the support by other WLS patients. In 2002 there wasn't the support system or knowledge that is here today. Many pcp are not knowledgeable about WLS either so you can not get the necessary information needed. So I come here and to my surgeon's support group meetings every month. I wish you well and keep us posted on your progress.
Take care,
Janice

I know of a doctor who specializes in homeopathic medicine and he deals specifically with thyroid and fatigue issues. He's located in West Bloomfield. He doesn't take insurance but both of my friends who have seen him have been reimbursed by their insurance companies for most of the visits and treatments they've had through him. Let me know if you'd like his name and number.
