Serious "whew" moment............

Last night I had a baked pork cutlet....I chewed it well, and ate it slow..took me an hour to eat about 3 ounces. Suddenly, I felt it just sticking to my stoma. I got so sick starting at 5pm I spent the next 4 hours ing. I 'ed so much that I got a terrible migraine, and my back hurt and I felt terribly weak. I nearly considered going to the ER. However, my surgeon always told me to wait it out a little while and "all things will pass"....so I took that to heart and just layed on the sofa......hurting and feeling like my insides were about to explode. (no, not a pleasant thought but it's that "uck" feeling) About 330am this morning it finally passed and I was able to get to bed, and slept until about an hour ago. I awoke with a remnant headache but felt ok, took my vitamin and had a protein bar and it all stayed down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so frightened that I'd end up in the ER, and knowing my Mom and her two neighbors are en route to my house this moment, I was fearing that I'd have to call and cancel. But, fortunately, I didn't..... I kept trying to sip water last night but it came up...so I knew something was wrong... I'm back to normal now with a slight headache and my eyes are blodshot but I'm OK!!!! Guessing that it was the pork (though I have eaten it before) it's that "trial and error" thing that we WLS patients have to deal with. I'm just thankful that I'm back to normal today and able to eat, drink and tolerate liquids and avoid the dreaded ER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I said up there ^.............WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and a big SIGH. Stacey

Hi Stacy, I've had problems with pork before. And the last time, I'd made sure that I really cooked it so that it was moist, but it didn't matter. Strangely, I got sick last night. I was so hungry for corn on the cob. I've eaten it before, but oh boy, did it hurt last night until it came up. Unlike you, it only took me a few minutes after I ate it to get rid of it. The good thing when that happens is that I realize this tool is still working. That's the thought I try to have as I lean over the toilet puking!! Hope today is much better for you. Jane

Hi Jane!!!!! Good to see you! Sorry you got sick too!!!! UGH!!!!!! Yep, sure does mean that "TOOL" is working when we get sick.......but I thought I just about had it under control!!! Sometimes I even avoid chicken, I got that stuck and stuck good last year, landed in the ER, then admitted, then an endoscope, my surgeon said NO MORE CHICKEN for at least 6 months!!!!!!!!!!! So I didn't touch the stuff at all! He said Poultry in general is sticky and that some chicken (white meat mostly) is stringy. So after 6 months past I had tried it and no problem but have to stick to dark meat for now. I also make sure I use a low fat/low sodium gravy with all my meats now, and it helps to get it down. Though last night, I did not use gravy, perhaps that's why it got stuck!!! Still being patient and waiting on approval for that tummy tuck! No word yet but I don't expect it to be coming for another 2-3 weeks or more. In the meantime I'm doing some work outs that include the abs -- I was restricted until just about 1 week ago from doing AB work since I had fractured ribs. (they found them with a nuclear bone scan last October 05)...x rays didn't show a thing! Now that they have healed I'm allowed to do ab work. Hope all is well with you and your husband, was such a great treat to meet you both last weekend in Ypsi. Take care and enjoy the weekend!!!!!!!!!!! Stacey

Thanks Shawn, I'm fairing pretty good now...just a teeny little hurt in my head but it's almost gone. Taking the day slow and enjoying the peace and quiet before the rush of company hits later this afternoon. My remedy for a headache has always been darkness, peace and quiet, and rest. So far, it's working. Thanks! Stacey

Hey Stacey: Next time, you'll have to make it a pork pate'. Hope you are feeling better today, and that your migraine is on the mend. Guess what? I lost nine pounds on my first week of the yucky pre-op fast! That almost made it worth it! Have a great visit with your family, Julie
