Confused....
You all have been so great to me...I just need a little input. I had myself convinced that I wanted the lap band surgery but now after reading some posts on that forum, I'm worried that I won't lose the weight I need and want to lose. I had my consultation and the doctor seemed optimistic that I would but it's scary. I'm wondering now if I should talk to him about the RNY instead....
Any advice?
Thanks Theresa!
How long were you out of work with the laproscopic RNY? That is one of the deciding factors for me. That and I have a two year old that I have to manage while recovering. How long did it take to feel back to normal? My mom had the open RNY and it seemed like it took forever for her to recover.
I have officially changed my mind...I called Dr. Kam's office yesterdy and let them know that I was now going for the RNY. They said it would be no problem. I know what you mean about steak...I am a meat eater and thinking of NEVER eating red meat again doesn't sound like a lifelong plan. Also, I want to lose the majority of my excess weight (around 200 pounds) so if I'm going to go through this I will go ahead and do it all the way.
Thanks for the input
I had open RNY on 7/3. I should be returning back to work this week (so four weeks). I also have a two year old. He is still in a crib, but should be out of that within the next few months. So we decided that he would climb up on his kitchen chair with his booster seat and then over the rail, with mommy assisting of course. I still am not able to pick him up but I do help him climbing into the van, walking up and down the steps, etc... The first week was hard, as he likes to climb up in the chair or couch and sit on your lap. I just held on to his hand or arm while he did the work. When he did want to sit up with me I would put the leg rest up and he would sit/lay between my legs with a little pillow behind his head. He loved it. The first week home I was not really able to do anything with him. Thank goodness we had people to help out with him and he had several sleepovers.
You have to keep in mind, when you think of what procedure to have that the recovery time is only a small portion of your life (the small picture) versus what you will become in the long run (the big picture).
When I started, I was convinced that I wanted the lap band surgery. However, after investigating and doing research and knowing what my strengths and weaknesses are -- I changed my mind to pursue the lap RNY surgery. If everything goes according to plan (always subject to change!) I'll be off 2 weeks after discharge from the hospital. -- Got your email as well. You'll be fine with your psych eval -- I was way nervous because I didn't know what to expect. You'll really like this dr.--easy to talk to, etc. I was in and out lickety split!
I have surgery coming up in Sept, I have a 1 and 2 year old, LORD knows they are busy. But I plan on getting someone from church and my family involved when the time comes. My little ones, are busy busy busy, and they will double team ya!
Get a teenage helper to come hang out with your kid but by all means don't let that stop you from the best decision you'll make to be healthier and happy.
As far as lap band versus RNY the RNY has a better weight loss record, I was told you can manipulate the lap band from day one, where as with RNY you cheat and pay! You learn real fast to follow the rules and the results are awesome... What is your weight loss goal?
