Hey guys, I am 2 weeks post op tomorrow! I am doing so much better! I feel pretty good. Still a little sore in the left side but that gets better with everyday. I have found out I am lactose intolerant though. That kind of sucks. I am starting to wonder though when do you start to see some of the weight come off? When I started my liquid fast I weighed 246. I weighed myself the day of surgery and was at 230. I came home from the hospital and weighed 243. LOL IV weight I am told. I weighed myself today and I was at 229. So I was a little discouraged since I have been on liquids for 4 weeks now. I thought I would see a little more progress. I am alittle discouraged. Can you tell me when you started to see some weight come off? I am going to say Thank you in advance to all of you *****spond because sometimes SO many respond and then I feel bad if I can't respond to everyone. So thanks guys! Hugs, Di

When I came home, both times, I also had gained (IV weight) but within a few days that came off and the pounds started to drop. Within two weeks I was down 20 pounds from surgery date (or 30 from start of liquid diet). The third week I did not lose but only .5 pounds. I was shocked. Then I started going through my fitday journal and realized that I was taking in about 200-300 calories per day - not near enough. Started to eat more, switched my protein drink to something that takes me all day to drink but gives me half my protein for the day and the weight started to come off again this past week (tomorrow is four weeks). Check to see how much you are consuming in calories. That might be an issue. How much protein are you taking in a day? I was told I should be getting atleast 60 grams (I am averaging 70-90 a day right now). What abou****er? Also, are you walking? This past weekend I went to a family reunion and was told that a cousin had RNY about four years ago (long story short, my grandfather and his brother were adopted by relatives after their mother died, and we reconnected with this part of our family about 4 years ago). Anyways, when we were introduced and talked about the surgery she told me that soon ketosis will kick in and the weight will start dropping off even if you are not hitting your full protein, atleast that is what happened for her. Hope that helps. Michelle 311/275/140

Hi Di!!! I lost 24 lbs in the first month. And I was elated I had lost that. Give yourself time and stop weighing so often. I only weighed once a month because as you lose weight and start to walk, you build muscle which weighs more than fat, so you might gain! Try to find a scale that provides BMI, Fat mass and % so you can see if that is dropping. If it is you are losing fat and if you gain weight you may be gaining muscle. Don't get discouraged, you're doing wonderful and each person is different and unique in how they lose weight! OK???????????????? Huggies girlfriend! Stacey

Try not to get discouraged. I am 6 weeks out on Thursday and I feel I've just started to lose in the past week or so. I was 293 to start. 270 day of surgery, 260 one week out.. and then 260 second week...260 third week...256 fourth week... and today I weighed in at 248. Some of our bodies need an adjustment time.. and believe me .. I was VERY discouraged... you've probably read some of my posts! When I got the flu the 3rd week out, they checked my urine at the hospital and told me I was definately in starvation mode. I know my body, and it wanted to hang on to every ounce it could. I think it's finally adjusting to the fact that I'm eating a little more and that I'm not going to starve myself. Just try try try to be patient and be kind to yourself. Your body is going through SOOOOO much right now. Just use your logical mind and know with how little you're eating, your body is going to have to give up the fat sooner or later. My nut also told me to get 700 - 900 calories in a day to help. Hang in there!! Kim

My answer would be similar to the others - - I was really water logged and puffy when I came home from the hospital but it all came off in the first few days - - I lost 15 pounds in my first week. By the end of 6 weeks I had lost 35 and I've stayed stuck there for the last 3 weeks (but I have stayed off the scale for the past week so I'm not really positive I'm still stuck). Once I started keeping a food log I raised my calories because I found I was eating under 500 calories a day -- it's really easy to do when you aren't hungry. Boy I could never have done THAT before (eat less than 500)!! The best advice I've been given and will pass on to you - - STAY OFF THE SCALE! Karen

Hi Di, so good to see you posting. I haven't been on-line to much so I haven't been posting to much. I know all too well what you mean by being discouraged. I was losing like a pound a day, I couldn't wait to get on the scale every morning. But now I am stuck!! The darn scale will not move. It is driving me crazy. This has went on for a week. Sometimes I worry... What if I stay stuck here FOREVER!!! I am crazy I know!! LOL We just have to keep plugging away at everything and take it a day at a time. We will lose everntually. As for me I am going to up my protein and calories. I have not been getting in my protein like I should. I have heard that when you don't get in your protein and calories you body goes into starvation mode. I NEVER thought I would struggle to get in calories. Go figure!! Hang in there, we ARE on our way to being some sexy mamas!!! Kathy

Hi Diane Glad to see you are feeling well. There's hope for me yet, LOL We do not have a scale up here in Ludington. I have one down at my house on Grosse Ile (that is for sale) but I know it is not accurate. Came home from Walmart, and told my fiance, "I was looking at scales." He said, "Don't buy a scale - you will get addicted to it, you don't need a scale to tell you if you are losing weight." I said "How will I know if I'm losing weight?" He said "I'll tell you if you are losing weight." I dunno - don't know if I should get a scale or not! Julie
