I am still pre-op. I get to see the by-pass surgeon on 8-15. I have found out I have a herinated disc in my lower back. The neuro doc wants therapy and other things before he thinks about surgery. I am worried they won't let me have gastric surgery with my back like this. I told my reg doc, if I have the gastric surgery I would get weight off my back and that would help relieve the pressure. He laughed and agreed. Has any else had anything similar to this? Becky

I didn't have herniated discs but I too had back issues, and my pain doc actually recommended that I have the gastric bypass surgery to help alleviate the back pain. I don't think they won't let you have have the GBS because of the herniated discs. Eileen

Thanks for the input Eileen. I would only think it should help. I know when I had my hysterectomy in Dec. 05', the back pain helped me to recover quicker because I could not stand to lay around so I was up and walking about 5 hours sooner than they expected. I see Dr. Verseman at Borgess in a couple weeks I will know more than. Becky

I have a degenerative disc and that helped convince BCBS to approve me for both the RNY and the TT. My back is soooooo much better w/o the extra 120 pounds and the hanging skin!
