Need a Nutritionist Referral
Hi Kevin,
I've been great. I've just been pulling my hair out because I've been stuck on this plateau now for about 6 months. Went to the support group meeting last week and spoke to the therapist about it and shared with him some of my eating habits. For instance, I didn't know tha****ermelon has too much sugar in it. I eat that alot. So, he suggested that I see a therapist to go over my diet and assist me in breaking my plateau.
However, I have a feeling I know what you're going to say. Water, Protein, Exercise!
But any help you can offer will be taken seriously!!
You know all the words to my song!!!!
We can get through this one.
Fruits especially watermelon(one of my favorites) have a lot of natural sugars that we can get through our system without the dumping. Bu they are still sugars. We need to cut that in half right away. Look up the nutritional content for fruits and you will be floored. Especially when you do the exact weight of the fruit without a guestimate. I almost died when I read it.
Anyway, you need to trick your system into a change. The first thing is to of course make sure you are eating what you are supposed to eat not only content wise but nutritionally - 80 grams of protein, less that 30 carbs etc,,,. Start with your carb intake and whatever it is cut it in half and don't eat any for the first part of your day until after you have gotten moving and in full swing. Which leads me to this,,,,,,,,,
Try and add a walk right after you wake up. Drink a protein shake, eat the vitamin, take a brisk 1/2 hour walk then drink tha****er. You will have jump started your system. I know it's a pain but in the morning it's the best time. Not only because I get it all going then but I am hideous in the AM and the darkness hides that.
2-3 hours later a protein type snack followed in a 1/2 hour with some water.
Lunch - More protein (17 -20 grams) with a carb like grapes or watermelon(1/2 of what you used to have) try to stay away from bread at all.
2-3 hours later Protein snack like cheese or deli slices or even a protein bar.
Dinner - 25 grams of protein (grilled chicken breast is one of my favorites) and some greens like string beans or asparagus or very well done broccoli. Water a half our later of course. Stay away from them white foods like potatoes and white breads.
2-3 hours later 17-20 grams of protein for a snack. Cheese with a few grapes or deli slices on ww crackers with cheese or even another protein shake.
Every other day walk in the evening if you can and drink water as you go.
This is a tough one to follow but I used it for a few weeks on one of my plateaus and modified as needed to keep the change going. That's really what it's about - changing the system so your body has to use it's stores.
BTW - I hung out with a newbie today at POH. I thought of you and when I met you for the first time. I hope this helps you.

Hey KP?
I wanted to say thanks for posting what you suggested on eating and doing for the day.
So much so, I copied and pasted it to a "word" doc, and printed it and it's now on my fridge. (gosh, I hope you don't charge a nominal fee for this!!!)
Because often I forget what I'm doing...and eat something that has natural sugars and I forget to eat my protein (though most of what I consume is in that glass bottle called "Isopure".......however I do eat Atkins Advantage Granola Bars- they have 1/2 the carbs of South Beach Diet Meal Replacement Bars- and they taste better-lighter to me.
I have a hard time with green stuff....ie., broccoli even well cooked, and asparagus still too stringy for me. I can tolerate raw spinach so I try to get some of that every day.
Also Boston Bibb Lettuce works for me -- but I don't eat much salads right now. My pouch spits it out at me!!!
I can tolerate low sodium canned greenie beenies and often low sodium canned peas,
but I wonder if there's something else out there that's green I'm missing out on that I could tolerate. Any ideas?
So thanks........I'm headed to see DiNick this weekend and the excitement has kicked in 100 percent!!!
I just hope it's nice weather for a 2 hour tour. (140 miles one way from my place to his)
I saw a NUT here in town and got more info from people on this board than I did her!!!
Thanks!!
