(my mom said you have to go an entire day without anything to drink and i'm pre

i dunno about your surgeon, but mine requires 24 hours before they do the leak test, then you can drink. i ended up on a vent and didn't get anything for 9 days. But you will be fine, they fill you with iv fluid. My surgery lasted five hours i was told. Hugs Linda

1. Mine lasted about 3 hrs. 2. I truly don't remember..I think I slept all night, and then in the morning they started giving me ice chips. My dr. checked for any leaks while I was under...I guess they fill your abdomen with air, and can see if there is a leak. So I never had to drink anything and get any xray or anything like that after I woke up. Best of luck to you!!!! Hugs, Theresa

CORI didn't call me, the hospital did so I wouldn't be upset that they didn't call because it is the Hospital that puts the schedule together! My arrival and surgery time was the same as yours. I was taken in right on time for surgery. I had open and I remember looking at the clock in recovery at 8:10am. I was not allowed anything until the next morning! They give you these AWFUL (IMO) lemon swabs for your mouth, but I suffered because they were so gross! The next morning you will be allowed ice chips and s/f popsicles. Even though you are considered pre diabetic right now, I am sure that "status" will change immediately after surgery. Best of luck to you! Jennifer

Lap does take longer than open . Karen 53 was scheduled before and hers took a little longer, from waht I've seen usually about 3 hours!! The lemon swabs are not the best BUT I was glad to have them that 1st 24 hours!!!

I think the laps take about two hours. Ice chips the day after surgery. But like Diva says I don't think I took the lemon glycerol swab out of my mouth once they gave it to me. You're on lots of IV fluids so you don't notice it, just the dry mouth. Ice chips and popcicles the day after surgery. Liquids on the 2nd day.

My Surgery took 1.5 hours. I was SOOO thankful for the Lemon things, that I didn't want to use them all at once. My mouth was SO dry. I was supposed to be the first one in, but my surgeon was delayed because of an emergency. 1.5 hours 24 hours Robin 274/242
