Reconsidering Plastic Surgeon Visit 7/29-help?
I have an appointment with Dr. Vincent Dinick, MD., at Barix on July 29th at 1130am. I'm all set with recommendation letters, medical records of weight loss/plateau, and more.
Now, suddenly, I want to cancel. WHY??
Because of the first appt I had with Mark Komorowski, MD., plastic surgeon in Bay City really made me frustrated --- now I feel like maybe no one will be able to do anything and it's a waste of time and money.
I have osteoporosis in Lumbar 1 and 2, have valid proof, and also have chronic back problems due to the excess skin, plus I am limited on my ability to exercise due to the skin. I have been at 159 now 2 weeks, prior to that, I was at plateau in the 160's since January 2006.
I am one year post op as of July 19, 2006, and am 19 lbs from goal.
My only upset is that my WLS Surgeon does not approve of me seeing a plastic surgeon until I'm 2 years out, but, BCBS said it was ok, and also I am 47 and have bone issues as well in my spine and back which he is NOT aware of.
I'm suppose to pay 100.00 admin fee that is not covered by BCBS, they said so. (both his office and bcbs did) and then gas round trip will run me about 65.00 (I have 4wd suv/20 gallon tank!)
So, dear friends, give me reasons I need to go.
Tell me what you think -- and how I need to view this - rather than being afraid of what I don't know will happen, because of what happened in the past made me very angry!
Thanks!
Stacey,
As I told you before Dr. DiNick IS the best of the best! If you want good quality work from the best surgeon around, Well you may have to pay a little out of pocket. Just think of those who don't have coverage at all. In the whole scheme of things the little you will have to put out of pocket is nothing. Pull yourself up by your boot straps and go for it girl!!!! God Bless---Toni
Thanks Toni......good to see you!!!
I do so appreciate the time you took with Ali to come meet me in Bay City back then, and take me out to lunch. It was so generous of you two to do that!!!
I'm just confused right now...hard to decide when it all comes down to it. I get chicken too.
But I'm listening to what people post-- like you!
Thanks for being who you are to me, and many others!

Stacy I'm only 3 months out not close enough to get plastics. I dont know if I will need them but I have already started a TT fund. I have insurance but I dont know if they will cover it. All I can say to you is just atleast try. You will never know what the outcome will be until you go. I just dont want you to wake up the next day and beat yourself up that you did not keep your appointment. Keep you in my prayers

You will be so much prouder of your weight lost. You won't have that roll of skin that you have to push around inside your clothes to be less obivious. Bending over will be heaven without that roll of skin in the way. The skin infections underneath the folds will be gone. You will have less back pain.
Granted, it is uncomfortable for awhile; but such an improvement and bonus to your weight loss; that it should be a part of weight loss surgery.
Just my opinion!

Stacey,
I would do it again in a heartbeat! It really is "the icing on the cake" so-to-speak...(maybe a bad analogy for this board!!), after losing all that weight. I really didn't feel "finished" until I had my TT. I was 30 lbs from goal, but I was over a year out, lost 125 lbs, and had really leveled out on my weight loss. I just wanted that hanging fat gone! You will love it! My only regret is that I didn't go to Dr. DiNick. I had another plastic surgeon and at the time I thought she was wonderful, and don't get me wrong, She is a wonderful person and I still think it looks good, it just does not look as good as I know it could have if done by Dr. DiNick. I've seen Toni's and others done by him, and wow, a big difference!
So, bottom line? DO IT!!! Dr. Dinick is wonderful from all I've heard, and you will not regret it! And when could you ever get a tt paid for by insurance?! I'd do it! I love mine!
Best of luck, Theresa
Stacey--i saw Dr. Dinick Sturday for a pre op consultation and loved him.....he is very nice, very professional, tells you what he can and cant do, listens well, snaswers questions, doesnt rush you, listens to you again to see if you have any questions etc.........i really thought the world of him........and i havent heard one person upset about having been his patient. Seems like it would be hard to go wrong here.......i am just looking forward to the fall when i can start to get my work done! (nearer to goal).........but if you want reconstructive surgery, i think he is your man.......i drove from East Lansing to see him.......would drive back blind folded if i had to! grin.......you go girl! hug rae and i got to meet Carey there!!!!!!!!!!!!! she was wonderful!
