Help! I'm afraid of ketchup!

Okay.. I tried to find sugar free ketchup at Kroger the other day and couldn't. I even looked in the "organic" section. There are a few foods that I know would just taste a whole lot better with a bit of the ole "red sauce".. but I'm afraid I will dump on regular ketchup. I don't like things swimming in the stuff, but I tablespoon has 4 sugars...so if there are any sugar grams in what you're eating, it doesn't seem too wise of a combo. Is there sugar free ketchup? Maybe at Meijers? They seem to have it all... Thanks! Kim

Maybe you should try a health food store. I've never seen sf ketchup. I can tolerate a little bit, but I am 2 1/2 yrs post op. Good luck, Carey

Kim i don't think you can eat enough to hurt you. i never had a problem with ketchup. i also used a-1 sauce which has 2g of sugar in 1 T. Or mustard which has none. Back when i had sugery and the low carb diet was so popular, i bought low carb ketchup (which only had one gram difference) at kroger and it tasted nasty. hugs Linda

I could handle ketchup as long as it wasn't used on a carb type of food (i.e. potato). At first, I experimented with just a little bit. Try that first. I would never load up on ketchup. However, a TBSP shouldn't make you dump. Jon

Kim, Some sugars have no effect on me but sugars in dressings, ketchup and mayo make me sick everytime. I have learned to eat without the extra. If you are going to try it do it when you are at home. Take care, Renee

I dont really like ketchup but I have eaten it since I have had the surgery 18 months ago. I also use A-1, Heinz 57, and other sides but I use it in moderation so that I dont get sick. Good rule of thumb, try it at home first. I agree with the others. Suzanne 300/150

Hey Kim, I get my ketchup from the organic section at Kroger. It's called Naturally Preferred organic tomato ketchup. It has 2 grams of sugar pre tablespoon of ketchup. I measure out 1/2 teaspoon and have never had any trouble with it. It's amazing how much ketchup is in 1/2 teaspoon. It does make some foods taste better. Hope this helps. God bless, Annette

I buy low carb ketchup at Meijer, but I have had regular and it doesn't bother me at all - never has, and I am pretty sensitive to sugars. Maybe give the low carb a try - the sugars are lower and it doesn't taste yucky. Good luck! Bekki

Kim, If you have a Meijer or VG's Food Store in your area, they carry SF/low-carb Ketchup and BBQ Sauces. They don't quite taste the same... but they're red and if you pretend, it can fool you... once you start using it, you won't tell the difference. I find that things I thought I liked before aren't as good as I remember. GOOD LUCK.... Brandee
