OMG Never ever take homemade "sugar free" cookies from the little blue haired lady at church! This 70+ year old lady has always been sweet & well intentioned and when we went to church yesterday she presented me with a lovely plate of homemade cookies. And assured me they were sugar-free. I brought them home and set them on the counter and totally forgot about them yesterday. This morning around 11, the kids suggested that we have them with lunch. I figured why not the kids could use some sugar free stuff too! So we had a nice lunch (sandwiches cause it is too hot to cook) and then I took two cookies & split the rest with the kids. Boy those cookies tasted sooooo good and were soft & chewy and kinda tasted like snickerdoodles. Within 20 minutes, I knew that they were NOT sugar free. I ran to the bathroom and had things coming from both ends. I thought I was going to die! I could not get rid of the ill effects. I tried flushing with lots & lots of water but with no good effects. I began sweating profusly & shaking and the kids helped me to my bed and placed a bucket beside me on the floor. Liz (my sweet daughter) called the lady and asked her why she would give me something that was sugar free when it really wasn't. The lady explained that she had been concerned that I had lost way too much weight and she worried that I was starving myself so she wanted to try to help me out. Liz not so politely explained to her that the weight loss was intentional and it was due to the surgery that I COULD NOT EVER EVER have sugar again. The lady apologized and said she did not know that I had the surgery and was extremely upset now. Well, I stayed in bed until 4:15 because that is when I was awoken by persistant doorbell ringing. The local florist was there with a huge bouquet of flowers and a note of apology from the lady. Nice as the gesture was, it was a bit too late for my concern. I had a lot of personal reasons for not telling people that I was a GAP but now I am proudly going to shout it from the rooftops to prevent any of this from ever happening to me again! And to educate people that when someone tells you they can't have sugar, they mean they can't have sugar!

Man Tracy that was horrible. I'm glad that you are ok now. Do you think that you will talk to the lady from church again? I'm sure she is upset and ashamed of herself.

My daughter is a new waitress at the Big Boy in Kzoo. A lady comes in there almost nightly and asks for the sugar-free frozen yogurt. My daughter checked the carton and it isn't sugar free at all. Even the manager has been telling the woman that it is and didn't believe my daughter until she got the carton and showed him to prove it! I'm so sorry that this happened to you. We will all learn from this. Thank you for sharing. Best wishes.

Hi Tracy, So sorry this happened to you. Sometimes, people just do not think beyond their own agenda.Even if she didn't know you had the surgery, lying to you about what was in the cookies was unacceptable. There are many other medical cir****tances and conditions beyond WLS that could have contributed to your weight loss(had you not had WLS) and would have caused you to be sick from those cookies. Oh Boy!!!!!! The good: 1 It happened at home. 2 You knew what was going on and your kids reacted properly. Be very proud of them 3 I dunno. I just didn't want to end with 2 The bad: 1 You dumped real good. Yowie!! 2 You will never look a chocolate chip cookie the same way ever again 3 Blue hairs can't be trusted. I know from walking the mall with Jon. They are dangerous I'm sorry you dumped but I am pleased that you knew to dowse that fire with water. Believe it or not it did help it from getting worse. Load up with protein to put your levels back in order. And take a vitamin too for good measure. Positive vibes kid. kp

BTW: I am laughing at KP's idea.. not at the situation. I was actually so upset about this on so many levels last night I was thinking about it as I was falling asleep. I can't believe the blue hair lied right in church!!!!! NOT funny.. but I loved KP's idea is all! Hope you're feeling better!!!! Kim

I don't even know what to day. OMG! I can't believe someone would lie like that about the ingredients in food. I mean WLS aside, you never tell someone something is sugar free if it is not. A diabetic might not be able to tolerate it. I just can't believe someone would be that stupid, thoughtless, interferring and inconsiderate. I just want to smack her for you. ((((((((((((((((Tracy))))))))))))))) Hope you are feeling better now. Shawn 304
