Hi jenny Congrats to your mom on becoming a loser, and welcome to the board. You need to do everything you can now to get healthy. Eat high protein low carb meals, and no junk food. Take vitamins and drink lots of water, you already know the walking part. Have you had a consult with a surgeon yet? Hugs Linda

Hey Jenny, Glad you made it to the MI board, I hope someone will chime in with insurance or uninsurance info soon. Sounds like your mom is on her way to better health, glad to hear it. I'm just back to MI after many years so I don't know the state system but I hope you are investigating it. If you have the comorbidities, this surgery is considered medically necessary. From what I read and hear, the healthier the body, the better the results. I gave up soda, straws, drinking with meals as soon as I knew that they would be unacceptable afterward. But I really wish I had started getting more exercise, no matter how hard it would have been. I'm losing steadily but still not as strong as I should be and I'm afraid that part of what I am losing is muscle.

hey thanks for the tips!! My mom is home today Only in the hospital for 26hrs She's doin good, but trying to get comfy at home now... My mom talked to me today, and she said that her and my dad talked and may end up paying for a year & half worth's of insurance so i can get this done..... So she told me to look into the next Orientation for MMPC in Grand Rapids (where they've all had it done)....so maybe it will be sooner then i ever thought it was ~~Jenny~~

Welcome to the board Jenny I am formally from Middleville just recently moved to Traverse city for a new job. I had my surgery with MMPC two years ago and I would recommend Dr Kemmenter if you pursue there program. Like Linda said start exercising and eating protein based foods and start taking vitamines and that will help you adjust when you become a post op patient. Congradulations to your mom and being able to become a looser on the looser bench. Tricia

Hi Jenny, Congrats to your mom!! AND YOU for taking this journey... welcome to the Michigan boards.... My advice - totally cut out pop... and do your best to not snack between meals. Those two were the hardest thing for me to break, but start now and you'll reap the rewards of your efforts! Best of luck to you.... Brandee
