Judy,
Do NOT give up the fight for what you want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stand in the middle of the room and yell your passion if you have to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't want to see a friend down...so here's a box (small one) of tissues............
I want to hear you triumph over this and keep going strong though the battle has begun you are not going to be defeated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are ALL here for you so take us with you when you put on your battle suit and let them know how important this is to you! (not that you haven't already!)
Here's to knocking down the opposition and making them crawl to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!

Hi Stacey...the reason I can't have this RNY is because I had a hernia wrapped around my esophagus 4 years ago. There is scar tissue involved. So that is why I have to go see another Dr. I am sure he will be able to do the DS or maybe still do the RNY after he opens me up to see what he is up against. I am researching the DS now. I am worrried about BC/BS PPO approving this one tho.
Thanks for being here!!
Hugs Judy
Judy - don't make me come to Saginaw!!
Seriously listen to the people here about talking to others about the surgery. Curt is right about Dr. Obied and Dr. Farhan. When your insurance finds out you physically can not have one type of surgery - they will have medical documentation why one is not possible but the other is. These people (the medical folk) deal with this all the time and they will find a way for it to go through. Have faith. BCBS PPO is wonderful. God is leading you down a different path and please trust that there is a reason. I'll leave bread crumbs for you down that path to the loser bench! Your seat is still reserved!

Oh Judy, i'm sorry for your delay......I don't post much to the board but do read the forum daily........
I started out in March @ MMPC, Gr Rapids, then due to the fact I live in Mayville, SE of Saginaw, the the three hour drive was more than I wanted, so switched on June 6 2006 to Dr. Obeid. Wouldn't you know when I decided to switch MMPC was getting ready to set up my surgery date.
I too have had surgery for hiatal hernia abut 30 years or so ago, Dr Obeid insisted I go back to my PCP for an upper GI, guess what another hital heria and some reflux.
Don't know how that will play into this now.
When I went into Dr Kemmenter he told me I could not have the Lapband & probably not the open rny. Most probably the bilipncreatic. (hope I'm saying that right).
I wanted the open, but he felt they would need to do the Bilipancreatic DS.....
Dr. Obied will not do the bilipancreatic, more like a revision, & told me that it was possible to get into do the surgery, to find out he couldn't do it.......
Now I'm back to sit & wait, when I went in June 6th he thought it was possible I would have something in July or early August, I called Hurley the other day, to be told they needed to get approval, but Medicare doesn't give pre-approval & my BCBS won't make a decision as medicare is the primary.........
I thought my approval that MMPC had would get things moving a bit faster but its still dragging out.
Anyway best of luck to you, I'm rooting for you!
