Update - Thanks Kevin! (long)
So.. after being in severe abdominal pain I called the intern on call down at Henry Ford. (Good advice Kevin..and you're right...he was VERY VERY happy to help) He told me that he waned me to go to the ER and get checked out and re-hydrated. I was in so much pain I did not know how I would make it to the ER. Well, as some of you may know, my husband had major back surgery last Thursday..and he insisted on going with me to the ER. I went to Hurley as it was closer and they have a Bariatric Unit. I live approx 10 minutes from the ER and I had to stop twice to use the bathrooms at Taco Bell and McDonalds... then just prayed and prayed I could make it to the ER without an accident. Well, Neither my husband or I knew exactly how to get there..and once we got downtown Flint we saw that there is all kinds of construction... This was excrutiating. I got to the ER at approx. 9 pm and spend the next 4 hours in the ER restroom. My husband was in such sever pain that he actually had to lie down on the hall floor to get releif.. after my husband complained they finally got me in and started me on some fluids (after nurse 1 blew a vein trying to draw blood).. They gave me some morphine for the pain. Gave me a gynelogical exam which proved I am still a female and all organs healthy and intact. Then I was told I would have a Catscan to check my abdomen. ****pt looking for the cat, Kevin..but what happened was MUCH more tramatic!) I had to drink 1 oz of bariam ever 10 minutes until I had 8 ozs. Then they weeled me into the catscan room...and informed me that they would be giving me an enima..but not to worry, I only had to hold it in for 5 minutes!!!!!!!!! Oh..and yes there would be cramping involved!!!!! NOT what I wanted to hear after taking morphine to get RID of cramping!!!! I was traumatized!!!!!!! I also thought I would get to go to the bathroom immediately upon completing the tests...but NOooooo... I had to wait for the technician to wheel me back to my room and THEN I could get up and go potty. Well, the test came back normal...so conclusion was that I have a severe case of stomach flu, and with my newly re-arranged bowels it was being especially hard on my system. Well, I was still feeling TERRIBLE and they gave my a prescription for Bentyl to help with cramping. Oh.. did I mention that they had to bring in another stretcher into my ER room for my husband because he was in such pain?? Oh yes, we were definatley the couple of the year last night.
Well, they released me at about 5 am and I got to the car and all of a sudden felt like someone jabbed me in the gut with a sharp poker...and then it happend... If I could have ran to the bathroom I would have..but I was too busy holding it together...which failed me at about 3 feet from the stall. HUMILIATION BEYOND BELIEF!!!! After 10 minutes composing myself I went back to the ER station and (crying) told them I can't go home... I'm too sick!!!! They gave me another shot of morphine to get me home. Once home I was even MORE sick. I was sitting on toilet and heaving into a bucket all at once.. ( I think my son was both amazed and horrified). Then I had to keep getting in the shower and letting the ho****er run over me to relieve all kinds of terrible cramping from the waist down. I got scared and called my surgeon. He told me that this did NOT sound mechanical...that it sounded like a virus... so I got my prescription filled (after my husband thought he left his wallet at the hospital, called all our credit cards and cancelled them...and when I asked if he had checked the sweatshirt he had worn..he found it).. and that seemed to releive the cramping. I've slept about 3 hours today. I called my parents and they are here now and taking care of me and Mike. I can honestly say last night was the worst night of our marriage... we are a MESS.
Kevin, thank you so much for calling to check on me. I couldn't get to the phone when you called. I appreciate your thoughtfullness though.
Tomorrow I will get back to getting everything in...but today was just horrific. Hopefully I am on the road to feeling better.
Bad news - I can't remember EVER being this sick... EVER
Good News - It was not mechanical. Nothing wrong with the new plumbing.
I could still use prayers... cramps are still there under the surface and my poor poor loving husband sacrificed so much of himself and was in so much pain last night helping me.
Blessings,
Kim
My gosh Kim! It sounds horrible!!! Every bit of it! Too bad you didn't know it was not mechanical BEFORE you had to go to the ER....being sick like that and trying to get there and back is the worst! I feel for you and yes, you will be in my prayers! Hopefully in the morning everything will be returning to normal. Hugs, Theresa
Oh my Kim, that sounds just awful. Bless your (and your poor husband's) heart. Reminds of a VERY similar incident I had with food poisoning at eight months pregnant. Sparing you the details, suffice it to say, that the OB resident on call that night got quite a baptism!
Hope you are feeling chipper soon.
