I HAVE A DATE!
Ohmygawd! I have a date! Dr. Kemmeter really DID move mountains! His assistant called at 8:45 this morning and scheduled me for August 9! Four weeks from tomorrow! I am sitting here in stunned disbelief that this is actually happening, and so quickly. I just attended my first orientation less than three weeks ago! My insurance preapproved because I met the conditions (MESSA is the best). I feel like God is on my side.
I will be having a duodenal switch, performed laparoscopically. This decision was made after a great deal of research and, Dr. Kemmeter was impressed that I knew as much about the surgery as I did and that this was what I wanted to do. He was extremely supportive, and feels now that the DS is a fantastic choice for not just the super morbidly obese or individuals undergoing revision.
I have a million emotions going through my head right now and SO much to do. I need to completely get ready for the new school year now - getting one month's lesson plans prepared, my classroom organized, all of my bulletin boards done, etc. etc. My family is coming up to see me this week. I have not told my parents, and I'm not sure I will. I have told my sister and a couple of teachers that I work with.
Finally, perhaps, after thirty-five years of beating myself up about my size, I'm going to start feeling as comfortable with who I am physicially as I am with who I am emotionally.
Have lots to do...lists to make....supplements to research....exercise to get.....oh my, here it goes!

Congrats Julie,
That is so wonderful. I have not told my parents either about my quest for WLS but I just told my sister the other day and she seems supportive. If you do tell your parents just remember to be strong, I know how influential mine can be at times. Good Luck with your lesson planning and getting everything ready.
