Hi Everyone, Well, as you've all told me.. I've stayed away from the scale since my 2 week check up last Wed. I weighed myself today because I go back to work tomorrow and I know there are a few people that will want to know how much weight I've lost (true friends that are happy for me...not the "nosey", skeptical bunch).. anyway. I climed on the s cale this morning with much anticipation and guess what? IT STILL HASN"T MOVED!!!! I honestly just don't understand it. I have never read a profile where someone hit a plateau 5 days after surgery and it lasted for weeks! I am getting approximantly 600 - 900 calories a day.. walking... drinkng as much fluid as I can without floating away or throwing up.. I just don't get it. It's not that I feel I'm losing "too slow".. I'm just not losing ANYTHING! I'm honestly feeling like a failure.. and I just don't get it. It's just very discouraging. They say you lose the most weight in the first 3 months.. I was losing more weight on my own before surgery! Sorry everyone.. I'm just venting and trying to keep myself from having an emotional meltdown. Blessings, Kim

Oh Kim! I know it is disheartening, but don't give up! I promise you it will move! But I know how disappointing it must be for you to not see it go down. Do you have a nutritionist on staff with your surgeon that you could call? I'm thinking maybe you are not getting enough calories in. I know how hard it is to get the calories in when you are early out, and I'm trying to remember how many I was supposed to get in in the beginning. I'm sure your body is just trying like heck to hang onto it's fat stores...it's hibrinating and trying it's darndest to not let it go. I just know that soon your scale will be dropping with leaps and bounds! Are you walking at all? Not that you have to break your neck exercising, but walking a little each day will definately get your matabolism in gear and push you right out of the hybrenation mode. Just a thought, if you are not doing this already. Hang in there Kim! I feel for you! Don't lose heart! Big Hugs, Theresa

Thanks Theresa, Yes, I am walking. I had Dr. Carlin at HFH. I talked to Annette last weds. (the Nut) and she told me I was doing good. My calories were a bit low. She said I should be between 700 and 900 a day. I've increased them a bit, but I usually tend to become very nauseated when I do that.. but I've been doing it none-the-less. I know you are probably correct about my body holding on to everything..but it seems like it has to give up the fat at some point! I'm getting my vitamins and going "potty" like normal and everything.. and like I said..it's not that it's just dropping a couple pounds a week.. it is going nowhere. Thanks so much for the encouragement and kind words. It does help! Blessings, Kim

Oh! I just went back to your post and see you had Dr. Carlin, same as me! Call Annette and ask her what she thinks. Have you been writing everything down in your journal? Tell her what you are doing exactly and she will help you. Hey, any chance your scale is on the blink?? That's a possiblity too! Hang in there! Theresa

Theresa is right about the calorie intake. You may be in starvation mode and your system is doing everything it can to hold on to what you take in. Make sure you jump start your metabolism in the am. Try a shake and take a walk with a bottle of water. You are sending a signal that your body is active and you will need more cals to keep going. Does that make sense? You'll get there. You are not a failure. kp

i lost a lot of weight in week one, then didn't lose a pound for another month then lost 20 seemingly overnight then didn't lose any for another six weeks and then dropped another 30 really quickly etc. This has kept up through the first year, it seems like most of time i'm in a stall yet somehow i've managed to lose over 170lbs this past year. I guess that's why they say you haven't hit a plateau unless it's been at least three months with zero weight loss. YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE.

Hey Kim, I'm sorry you're going through this. I know it can get quite discouraging when you have high hopes and nothing seems to be happening. Hang in there girl it will come off~promise. Just 6 months ago I had gained 12 pounds and thought I would be the only person that this surgery did not work for. I was very discouraged and honestly thought I wasn't going to lose any weight, especially after six full week's without losing a single ounce or even a fraction of an ounce. Finally at the beginning of my 7th week without any loss, I was down 4#'s. I have been losing steadily ever since, with the exception of a two week time frame. This woman who thought she was a failure even after having surgery has lost 118#'s post op (just 61/2 months ago) and a total of 184#'s. Kim are you going to www.fitday.com? Do you measure everything that goes into your mouth? What are you eating? How much fat's, carb's., and protein are you taking in? Its very important to count all of your nutritional intake, not just calories. It sounds like you may be in starvation mode. In order to lose we have to have enough water, protein, calories, fats, carb's. When you are getting enough your body will relax and realize that it is not starving, then it will let go of the fat cells. You will be fine sweetie, just hang in there Are you going to Centurion night on Tuesday? I really recommend that you go if there is any way for you to be there. It is an awesome experience, and very inspiring. I hope you can make it. If you are going I'll see you there. God bless you Kim, Love you, Annette
