Lovenox injections?

I have been instructed to have Lovenox injections every 12 hours for 14 days. They really are not that bad to give to myself. This morning I gave myself my third one. The injection area felt warm afterwards, but the warmth went away within 10 minutes. Then I looked at my stomach while I was changing my bandage (still have some leaking from one of my drains at the skin so I have to keep bandage on it). Every place I have given myself an injection I have a red spot (where needle went in) and a bruise that is bigger than a quarter. There is no pain, just very ugly. Is this normal? Michelle

Michelle, Yes, I think that it's normal. The Lovenox is a form of heparin which lessens the chance of blood clots. I was more bruised from the injections than the surgery. Jeanne

Good to know I am not the only one that bruises with them. Thank you for your reply Jeanne. Michelle

Very normal, and the bruising will get worse. Lovenox is intended to keep us from clotting and it starts working right at the injection sites. It will get uglier, I promise, but it won't hurt. Really, my bruises blended into each other in technicolor splendor, but I didn't get any blood clots!

Between the bruises from the surgery, the area around the right side drain and the injections, I am going to look like a punching bag! Hmmm....maybe I will get hubby to take a picture and see if I can be a work of art? Thank you for your reply Jane. Good to know I am not alone in the bruising world from Lovenox. Michelle

I did them in a clock on both sides it made it about three inches from the last one but bruises happen with them. You'll be ok. u

I had little dots everywhere! It was funny, but I was running out of spots to inject. Also, I was so puffed up, it was hard to pinch an inch! Robin
