OK, I am trying to decide whether I want to go to the Barix Clinic in Ypsilanti or the CORI center for my surgery. I would love to hear from people who have gone to either place and what your experience was like. Any and all info is greatly appreciated!

I initially went with Cori for my surgery and had a horrible time with them. The office staff was very nasty, and the nurse was non compassionate. My surgeon was wonderful and he has since left and has his own practice out in Wyandotte. His name is Steven Hendrick and you can find lots of info about him on this site just look him up. He is now head of bariatrics at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. Suzanne 300/150

Jami- I had Dr Schram at Barix and thought he was great. The nurses and staff at Barix were wonderful as well. I've never had any problems with any of them. Good luck with your surgery - wherever you decide to go. Teri

If you are open to a third choice, I suggest St Mary Mercy in Livonia. 800 686 9940. I have had a successful surgery, good follow up and an amazing amount of information made available. Dr Zeni is aware and caring and he does great surgery. Paula, who runs the program, is one of us so she has a very practical view. She is also a whiz with insurance companies! Tamara is the dietician, she is very committed to our health and comfort. I had very good care in the hospital as well. Anyway, give their office a call and Angie can let you know when the next seminar is or make an appointment for you to talk to Paula. Five Mile and Levan, right off 696.

My two cents??? GO BARIX!!! I couldn't have asked for better care both pre-op and post-op. They are experienced, have an excellent track record (for lack of better words). I just can't say enough great things about them. As for CORI? I cannot speak intelligently...but from what I've read on the board, their aftercare may leave a little bit to be desired? Ultimately, you have to be comfortable with whatever decision you make. Best of luck to you! Maria W.

Jami.. I went to Barix when it was Bariatric Treatment Center for a consult. I found it very dirty. I will say, the doctor was wonderful and spent 2 hours with me. I deceided to go with Dr. Kevin Krause at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, he saved my life. Best of luck

Hi Jami, I haven't had surgery yet, so I really can't speak of the aftercare, but I will say I'm going with Cori, and have found them absolutely great so far. Apparently, there had been some problems and from what I've heard, they have changed staff and made many other changes to correct things. I'd say it's working, from my experience so far. Everybody has been as nice as can be, very caring, very supportive. I've met Dr. Wood and Dr. Taylor and like them both. But I'm going with Dr. Wood, and he's done over 2,000 surgeries, and is really a pioneer in the field of WLS. Can't get much better than that! He also only does bariatric surgery now, unless he's called in for other things, which I know of two cases where that happened, which also reinforces for me what a great surgeon he is, when other docs turn to him for emergencies and difficult surgeries. There have been people on this board who were left with a bad taste in their mouths from Cori, but. like I said, I think things are much better now. Also, the floor where the bariatric patients are at Harper is great, all private rooms with a private shower, etc. Very nice. Anyway, just wanted to chime in....for what it's worth.

I went to CORI and they have been great! I went through the whole approval process in about 2 weeks. They totally took care of me. Also, they helped with my paperwork for short term disability. Dr. Kole is my surgeon and he is the best! Robin

Jami. I had surgery the 14th of June. I went to Barix with Dr Schram. I was very, very impressed with the hospital and staff and Dr Schram. I have had a great experience and wouldnt go anywhere else. I talked to the nurses at Cori and was very unimpressed with their attitude, I decided at that point that they were not for me. GOod luck! teri
