Ok, for the last 2 months or so, I've had this ulceration below the naval area. It's about pencil size and I thought it was from the pressure of the hernia (that's being repaired in a few weeks) against the skin. It scabs, comes off... seeps a little, then scabs again. More irritating than anything. Well this morning, the scab came off again and usually I hate looking at it --- I'm squimish. But as I examined it to make sure it wasn't leaking, I saw something pink. I was thinking OWEEEEEEEEEE.... fat. As it dried, the pink turned white and I believe it to be a piece of dead skin. I slowly pulled at it - in case it hurt, and much to my surprise... it's a suture. String! So now I have about 4 cm of string sticking out of my body. I called my surgeon's office and they have never heard of anything like this (at leas t the nurses haven't). So I have to go in tomorrow and see what they're going to do. It's just really really weird. Sheryl In the Zoo

It is an internal suture, did you have your incision around there? It is foriegn to your body and it has been trying to get rid of it, Pull the string as far as you can and clip it off, it should hopefull go in deep enough not to bother you anymore, or if it pulls right out that is better. If you haven't had any plastics yet you don't know about spitting stitches, I have had tones of plastics and was always pulling stitches, if you don't they get infected like yours did, till you get it out. Sheryl I had the same experience. I had Lap RNY but a few of my incisions had stitches sticking out. It looked like fish line, so I called the DR and they told me to just trim it off if I could. Once i trimmed it off the insision healed right up. Please let us know tomorrow what you find out. Stacy

Hi Sheryl, This happened to me shortly after my surgery. Mine looked kind of like a flower. My pcp said it was infected, put me on antibiotics, and sent me to my surgeon. Turned out it wasn't infected. My surgeon snipped it off and I was fine. He said this happens sometimes. Our bodies are just trying to dispel foreign matter. hope you feel better soon. God bless you, Annette
