Pain in my stomach and back...Help?!?!?!
Hi everyone, I am having some pain in my stomach area, and my back. The pain in my stomach is bad... When I sit up from a lying down position it hurts really bad. It hurts to take a deep breath, or even yawn. It feels almost like a pulled muscle. I thought maybe it could be gas, but I had really bad gas right after my surgery and that was on both sides. This is only on my right side of my body. Also, I have been having normal BM's so I don't see how it could be gas. I called my surgeon and he said to try some Gas-X and call him tomorrow. I am so worried that there is something else wrong. It makes me really discouraged because I was doing so well and feeling fine. I HATE not feeling well. I am soooooooooooooooo tired and exhausted even though I am getting in my vitamins, water, & Protein. And the only time the pain subsides is when I take the pain meds... Which I don't do often because I don't want to get addicted to that stuff. Does this sound normal? I am almost 3 weeks out... I feel like I should be farther along that I am. Anyone else have something like this happen?
Thanks in advance!
Kathy
P.S. On a good note, I weighed myself today, and I am down 47 pounds! (pre & post-op)
Kathy,
You're not even a month out - right? I had the same problem a few weeks after surgery and I went in and had a CT Scan and it showed nothing! The pain went away in about 4 days - it's the weirdest thing. I have no idea how bad you feel, but I just thought it might help you to know someone else knows what you're going thru.
Hang in there! Best wishes, and hooray on 47 lbs - thats awesome!
Kathryn
Hi Kathryn, Thanks for letting me know that you experienced this as well. I took some Gas-X and I still have pain. I am praying it will go away. I worry to much about the whole "what if's"... What if I somehow pulled a staple loose, or what if I have an infection. When you are in pain your mind keeps messing with you!
Anyways, thanks again.. Hopefully it will go away like yours did.

Paul's probably right about that stomach/gas pain. The back pain comes from your weight shift. You lost weight really fast and your muscles and back are adjusting for the new distribution. Open RNY gets real bad because they pull the abdominus rectus muscle apart to get to the chitlins. My back felt like it was on fire for about two weeks. My Chiro dude actually came to my house to adjust me and it really helped. In other words, you may be having some major growing pains.
Watch for fever with pain and shortness of breath. Those are the danger signs.
You will be fine.

Hi KP, thanks for the advice! I don't have a fever, I do however have shortness of breath.. But I think it is because when I do breathe normal it hurts. It is almost 2 Am and the pain is so bad, I can't sleep!!! I was thinking of going to the ER, but I will try to wait it out till the morning and call my surgeon.
I am glad I didn't have Open... I can't imagine my back hurting worse than it does now!
Thanks again...
Kathy
