Okay..THAT didn't work!
Hi Everyone,
I'm still struggeling through.. everything makes me feel sick even thinking about it. I am just hoping it will get better.
I have 2 medications that I have to take, actigall for my gallbladder and effexor for my depression.. both have to be crushed and are the nastiest, bitterest, grossest stuff I've yet encountered. I didn't know if I could even take it today as the though was just overwhelming. Then I thought maybe I would put them each in about 1 tbsp of condensed crystal lite to take off the bitterness and so I could get it down faster. Needless to say, 10 minutes later I was !!!! Can anybody tell me what I can do to take these? Even the taste of the flintstones chewables and the pepcid seem strong to me.
Kevin, thanks for the great advice this morning... my day was a bit better until this little encounter... I just keep telling myself "This will get better..this will get better"...

Kim,
This may sound silly, but I plug my nose. I don't know if it REALLY works... by I have forced myself to think that it works. I also have something on hand to sip that will wash out the flavor. Does your anti-nausea meds help you at all? Maybe if you take them first - wait 15 minutes and then take the yuckie ones that might help you...

Hi Kim, I am so sorry that you are having a hard time. Are you on any medicine for nausea? They put me on it right after surgery and the only times I felt like I was going to get sick was when I hadn't taken that medicine. I am wondering if your doctor can prescribe something for that. Mine is in liquid.
Now I am on 2 pills that are capsules and I have to open them and put them in water, and YUCK!!!! I am so with you on that one. I H-A-T-E the taste of them. I dread that part of my day.
I wish I knew what to tell you to do to help keep them down, other than to see if your Dr. Can prescribe something in liquid for the nausea & vomiting.
Hang in there.... It will get better!!!
I'll be praying for you!
God Bless, Kathy
Thanks everyone... I will call my Dr. tomorrow and see about something for the nausea...I can't even drink water without it making me feel so sic****ep thinking if I could just eat a cracker or something it would help, but maybe not. Today all I ate was a half cup of tea (decaf), 1.5 oz. chicken broth and 1.5 oz. cream of chicken soup. 1 sf popsicle and about 4 oz of water. I don't want to get dehydrated but everything sounds so gross to me. I knew I wouldn't be hungry after surgery, but I didn't know it would be because I'm nauseated all the time.
Please keep praying for me.
Kim
Kim,
You poor thing.....the nausea alone is enough to drive you nuts! My Dr took me off Effexor and put me on lexapro (20 mg) because it can cause nausea. I take Zofran & prevacid twice a day and reglan 30 mins before each meal, its the only way I can keep foods down right now. I drink Isoprue (clear drink) for my protein and that helps me so much since I cant handle shakes at all....or I will all over .....big hugs too you and if I can help you at all, please let me know....my heart goes out to you right now...

I crushed my pills and mixed them in a tsp of natural, no sugar added applesauce. Then it was just one swallow and I was done. I did that for each pill.
I remember everything having such strong tastes at the very beginning. I had to take the pepcid, that you dissolved in water.....Ugh...that was the worst. The taste and the grit were enough to make me sick.
Once I was about three weeks out, I felt so much better. The difference, for me, was amazing. Hopefully, you will start to feel better soon!

Holding your nose does work!! Just don't let go of it right away. As long as you hold it, you can't taste it. Right after I swallowed the crushed pills mixed with crystal lite or whatever you'd like, I'd take a tiny bite of creamy peanutbutter....after I got that around my mouth good and swallowed that, I'd take a little sip of water or whatever, and then no aftertaste! Worked for me! Good luck! Theresa
