Hi Everyone, I'm home now and everything went very well with surgery. I am feeling okay. Was doing great yesterday, but had a few bumps today with nausea. Tomorrow I can go to stage 2, but I am so confused!!!!! My husband went to the store to get soup and milk for me, but he said almost all the soups have over 5 grams of sugar as well as skim milk! I thought we were supposed to keep sugars under 5 grams????? He got me some "no sugar added" soy milk which I am mixing my protien with... but it looks like all normal foods that we are supposed to have at this stage have more than 5 grams sugars. Now that I'm home I am so afraid to eat anything!!!! HELP! My husband wouldn't even buy tomatoe soup because it had too much sugar! Thanks!

Tha's per serving. About 8 oz. You will eat much less than that and your sugar intake is over the period of 40 minutes. Eat slow and you will be fine. I can take 8 grams an hour. kp

Kim my NUT told me to read what is in it. Milk has natural sugar as well as some of the soups because of the veggie's. Even though it is showing as sugar grams some of those grams are not your refined sugars. Hope that helps, good luck Stacy

Welcome to the losers bench Kim! I use Carb Countdown. It has 8 grams of protein and only ***3*** grams of carbs per serving. Sheryl In the Zoo

When I got home, I didn't want milk in anything. It tasted horrible to me. So I tried everything the stores had, and it bothered me. Milk, dairy I mean. I ended up watering down soups with too much sodium and read labels. Remember, like posted previously, the sugar is per serving and you won't eat a regular sized serving anymore. So consider that you might take in 1/5 of a serving of milk, that is 1 gram of sugar you are taking in. Something else? Your taste buds are gonna change. Somehow, when you have surgery, not everything tastes the same. I use to hate cherries, now I can tolerate them and cherry flavored things. I was a chocoholic, and now, it doesn't matter to me. And I also realized, I never am hungry. I have to remember to eat. Great things are headed your way, just take it one day at a time!! Stacey

My surgeon told me that at this point in your time that you are not consuming enough of one product to worry to much about sodium, sugar, etc... But like everyone say, your taste buds will change, something you LOVED before surgery you will Hate now, so try somethings that you did not like prior to surgery. You just might like it now!! Also be careful with natural sugar because some of it might make you sick also. I am 3 years out and still have problems with fruit juices that are 100% fruit juice made with natural items. I also have problems with some natural fruit ~ it is really funky! You just never know and remember that everything is a trial item for sometime. You might be able to eat it today but not tolerate it today. Our pouches are so silly sometimes!!! Good Luck and don't let the "food thing" get you down!!!

Yes, the dietician from Barix said first to read the label. If it has over 2 grams of fat, to check the ingredient listing. Read the first 2-5 ingredients. Are they sugar or vegetables? Natural sugars like veggies are okay. Try to abstain from tomato for a while, because it can make some people dump. Good luck, Dawn

Hi Kim, I am glad you are home and doing well. Listen to KP, he knows where of he speaks. I live in Swartz Creek so I am not far from you if you need anything let me know. I lived off of protein drinks and water for the first month. SF jello helped alot too. I think I switched to dairy about 3-4 wks out. I wasn't intolerant to it, but I was careful because of the sugars. Take it slowly. Keep working on protein and fluids. I drank alot of broth too. Fluids are really important, you do not want to get dehydrated. Don't worry too much about getting everything else in great amounts right now. You will manage better later. Lots of fluids and walk!
