Still at Hurley

Hello everyone. I am still at the hospital and wanted to send a note before a take a nap. Hubby came today and helped me shower. What a difference it makes to no longer wallow in your own sludge! My IV is out now and I am off the monitors, too. Tomorrow I will be able to come home. I had a mishap this morning when my night nurse gave me potassium and it was flowing a bit too fast. It hurt so badly. It took a while for help to come. I was crying, shaking and my hand was hard, hot and shaking. That did me in for the day. I have been dealing with nausia all day and as long as I keep up with requesting meds I am okay. For dinner tonight I am working on an optisource caramel high protein drink. It isn't very good, but I have to do it. I have had a problem getting fluids in. Hubby brought me some bottled water and that makes a huge difference, too. I am starting to feel the rumbles in my tummy so it appears like I'll get rid of the gas soon. That will help a lot with the nausia, too, I am told. My sweet roomie went home today, as did Richard. I think I am the last one to leave... it was nice to have people here who understood. Well, I am going to take a cat nap. Thanks for the well wishes. I have a long way to go... but every day should get better. Brandee

HI Brandee, Just cause we are not physically there at Hurley , please know that you have people rooting for you!!! I will pray that tomorrow will be a better day and that you will get to come home. Although, I think the world of Hurley, there is not place like home Have you tried the strawberry optisource drink, I found it to be somewhat better, but that just might be me. I told the dietary tray passer to tell the diet office that the strawberry was the only flavor that I wanted. And they followed through with that request. Please remember that you are in our thoughts and prayers that all these negative things will slip away and you will be back on the mend take care Richard R.

Richard, you absolutely amaze me! What people on these boards don't realize is that you had your surgery YESTERDAY and you are home already! It is very quiet here on our floor without you and my roommate. The nurses said we were the best group they had in a long time. Thank you for the prayers and know that you have a special place in my heart, too! Brandee

Hey, Good Luck with everything. I had my surgery at Hurley Aug. 25,2005. I understand about the potassium in the hand. OW OW OW. Anyway, after I got home a couple of weeks later I had lots of nausea and I attributed it to the surgery and just adjusting to everything. Well I was still very low in potassium and I had to take it orally. It tastes awful. So be careful and keep an eye on that. Take Care, Alirae

I don't ever want to have potassium in my hand again. That was the worst feeling in the world! Thank you for your well wishes Ali Rae!

Just for future reference, they can put Lidocane (I think that's the right stuff) in the iv to keep the potassium from hurting. Sheryl In the Zoo

That is VERY good to know. Believe me, I won't forget that suggestion! I'll see the doctor tomorrow morning and will let them know. Thanks Sheryl!!!
