Hello EVERYONE. I have to brag... I am doing FANTASTIC! Surgery was yesterday and there was a power outage due to the storms in Flint, so I was delayed for an hour. I have a wonderful roommate. I could not ask for better care or company! If you are wondering how I am writing - I have wireless access from my hospital room. I passed the barium test today - I am blowing 3500 on my SMILE machine... catheter is out and nose tube is out. I have an IV for fluids but am now taking pain meds by mouth. Also doing liquids now. L O V E it!! Richard W. is in the room next door. I saw him today on my way for my barium leak test. He looked great. GLORY TO GOD for my success and ease in the hospital. I feel great... a bit loopy from the meds, but ready to start my new life. This losers bench is a pretty damn good place to be!

Wendy, it was AWESOME to see you and your hubbby!! Thank you so much for coming to see me... You are such an inspiration to me and I appreciate you taking time out of your day to visit myself - and my roomie! We both are doing great... baby steps, sleep, sip... Each day will be a new day and each day brings us closer to our goals! Thanks again! You're my honorary Angel! I'm going to take a nap now and then at 11 p.m. - jog a few laps around the floor and return in time for breathing treatments... FUN! LOVE, Brandee

That's great Brandee,I am so glad everything went well. You have got to be happy that it's finally done with. What with all the delays and then a power outage, your mental strength sure was being put to the test but it seems you just got stronger.I wanted to ask about barium test and smile machine?Since I haven't had WLS yet I didn't know what they are. I'm so happy for you. **sunflower**

The barium test is where you drink an ounce of barium liquid that can be contrast with an Xray. This is done to tell if you have any leaks in your new belly. The SMILE machine is a plastic breathing aparatus that helps you work your lung capacity. It is a breathing exercise. It hurts a bit at first, but actually feels good once you get going. You feel like you are stretching your chest. It makes me cough - which is good... helps avoid pneumonia and other yuckie things like that. Coughing hurts a bit, but it isn't bad. It took me a while to blow my nose. I felt like I had no power behind it. Kinda comical actually. I got myself laughing and then started coughing and then oopss... I sneezed. Go figure. So far my body is not screaming at me. This has been a great experience. First, meeting all of you... then meeting Richard and my roomie, Kathy - we just had a small support group meeting in my room. I am open RNY, Kathy is lap RNY and Richard is lapband. One of each and we are doing GREAT! Thank you to everyone who has said prayers for us. PRAYERS do get answered! My new life is starting... heck - it's here!
