Getting ready for MONDAY!! But I have a question...

Tomorrow is my last day home before my surgery on Monday. I spent the entire day with hubby and family setting up, tearing down, cleaning, decorating - you name it - for our niece's big baby shower. From being in the sun since 7 a.m., I am BLOATED. My rings are tight - which they have not been for the last two weeks. I drank a TON of water today and we all took it easy periodically to get out of the heat. I am so dog tired. Tomorrow we plan on running to WalMart to pick up a few things I will need while in the hospital and then stopping to visit with our Dads for Father's Day. Tomorrow is my liquid only day which is fine with me. Everything LOOKS nasty... again, anxiety stepping in... My question - to you experienced WLSers out there, is it okay for me to have protien in my liquids tomorrow? I find that it keeps me energized throughout the day and I figured it would be good to have it in my system before surgery. Same with my multi-vitamins that I have ready for post-op life. Any advice you can help would be great. Brandee... the sleepy girl !!M O N D A Y!!

Positive vibes for you. Now, bloated? Rings? You need to get those off before your surgery. I have heard about looping string through them and pulling them off that way. Butter and oil helps too. Hold your hand over your head for a while and try icing your finger to constrict the blood vessels. I'm sure some others have some ideas but I hate to think that you might have to have them cut off before you go in. Take care. kp

Oh, I didn't mean that they were stuck... they come off just fine but I noticed that they aren't sliding around my fingers like a hoola-hoop as they have been these last two weeks... that's how I know I am bloated. BUT... my friendly visitor made a one day appearace last week and knowing her... she'll be back in full force any day now... so that may have something to do with my bloated fingers, too. Who knows... probably too much information (Sorry). My husband is going to hold my wedding band for me and once I am out of recovery and the nurse says it is okay, I'll be able to wear it again on day 2... I was curious about taking protien in my fluids tomorrow... and if it was okay to still suck down my multi-vitamins tomorrow as normal. I think it is... but needed some post-op advice on that. By the way KP - how was your son's concert? Brandee

I am soooooooooooo excited for you. Good luck and if you need anything after surgery let me know. I wouldn't do anything differently if your Dr. said liquids only.........then I wouldn't take your vitamins or protein. Do you have to drink the stuff to make yourself go to the bathroom to clean out your system? Prayers are with you! Kristin

Thanks for your prayers and support. Once I am home and able to be more mobile, we'll have to meet up for a walk and talk! Thank heavens NO I don't have to drink the potty solution. I was very surprised that my surgeon does not require a bowel prep for Open RNY. They do require it for laproscopic procedure... still odd to me, but they are the experts and I trust their guidance. Thank you again, Kristin!!! Brandee

Hi Brandee! Not sure on the answer to your question as many Dr.'s have different ideas, so I'd say check with him/her to be sure. Just wanted to wish you the best of luck and congratulations on taking this step...it's a wonderful ride! Hugs, Theresa

Thank you Theresa! I read through the information Hurley gave me in a binder and it made no mention of what to do with vitamins, however it does say to take medications as normal, so I will take my vitamins. I am very excited... feel like I am in slow motion - but glad to have come to this point. Thank you for your support and well wishes! Brandee

Brandee, I am so excited for you!! Tomorrow is your big DAY!!! I know that you will do just fine. I am keeping you in my prayers. I can't wait to see how much more beautiful we will both be when we get rid of some of this weight. One thing that I have learned is.. In the hospital they will want you to walk, and I did... even more than they expected, But when I got home I slacked off big time and now I have terrible gas pains. That is really the only real problems I have had. So make sure you walk alot at home as well. As for the protein I know that I drank the drinks right up to the last night before, until I had to do the bowel prep. I also took my vitamins the day before. So I would think that those would be ok... I hope that you have someone who can let us know how you are doing. I am so happy for you. It will be here before you know it!!! God Bless!!! Love, Kathy

Kathy, Was your surgery open or lap? I am determined to get up as soon as allowed, shower as soon as allowed and do all the things I normally do for myself. Maybe I am overshooting my expectations, but my best friend is coming next Friday to stay with me until Monday (once I am home) and I told her last night on the phone we should go shopping! She told me I was crazy... but I figure walking would be a good thing, and if I am tired to take it easy. Perhaps I'll change my tune after surgery... but as of now I am ready to face the world, both feet on the ground and moving! Thank you for your prayers. I will see if I can't get hubby to log in this week and post a message... although they tell me I have wireless internet access in my hospital room - I may be able to post myself!! Thanks again Kathy! Your encouragement has been awesome! Love, Brandee

Hi Brandee, I had Lap. I know that the determination you have will help you so much afterwards. I think everyone heals a little differently. I made it a point that every time I had a visitor I would get up and walk with them. And I had A LOT of vistors. I thought I would be able to take care of myself but my poor Mom had to do a lot for me in the hospital. She even brushed my teeth for me!!! AWWWWW..... I'm so blessed!! But you have a positive outlook, so you will do just fine!! I know it!! What time is your surgery? Best wishes!!!! Love, Kathy
