Linda Ton---Answer to Plastic surgery complications.
This is a responds for Linda Ton to her question about my plastic surgery complications. I figured I would post it on here for anyone thinking of havng there inner thighs done.
If anyone has any suggestions please leave them...I am stuck!!
Hey Linda-
Well the complications I had/have are seromas and hematomas that formed on my inner thighs and knees after surgery. I had been in the Plastic surgeons office SEVERAL times to get them drained and by the time I got home they were filled with fluid again. This went on weekly to a couple times a week for MONTHS. Then it was decided to go in and do in office surgery on them to remove them, there were 7 total the smallest being the size of a marble, they were just big hard knots. Which during this whole time I continued to have severe swelling in both legs. Then after that surgery, I had to go back in within 2 weeks later because they formed again only in the left leg this time at the inner knee. Then it was again decided to go back in for surgery this time in the hospital and getting knocked out again....and on top of ALL them co-pays I aready paid for months of draining...I had hospital cost. I was told before surgery any problems would be covered after surgery...NOT TRUE!!! When I questioned it after because they keep collecting money from me they say oh well seromas aren't from the surgery. RIGHT!!! Then you ask why you get them they say from all the fluid that is built up from the surgery....so how is it not related to the surgery then??? UGH
So I went for the surgery again, at this time I was told the skin would be pulled tighter again because with all the month of swelling it stretch out some. Then I was told that they would use a tissue glue inside of my leg to mount the skin together so no fluid could form the seromas. Then a drain was placed in it for 4 weeks again. Well by the time the drain was ready to get pulled out the seroma was already back. UGH!!! Went to the ER one day because my leg was going numb and felt cold along with bad pains. They thought it could be a blood clot. Come to find out I have Lympodema now from this. YIKES!! So I had it drained a few more times and suffer from lymphodema, so I am on Lasix daily and supposed to wear a support hose on the one leg only. and seeing a vascular surgeon now also. I have had this drained a few more times after the last actual surgery and it fills right back up, they even tried to inject the tssue gue into my leg and it is not healing. I had to go for an EMG to see if any muscle or nerve damage was done to. Because of the pains I get in my leg and also the shooting pain that I get down my leg, it feels like a shock. They say my Lymphatic system is down and I could have to go to therapy 5 days a week for 4 hours a day till it is working, can take months or years. So I suffer now daily, my legs to me with all the swelling really don't seem smaller now than before all the skin was removed. If I could do it all over now I would do it all but the inner thighs. They cut from thi hip area to groin then groin to inner thighs. It has been reopened so many times, so many drains places and so many needles put in there that the scars look bad and alot of scar tissue built up. So now my options are leave this hard golfball size seroma in my inner side of my knee...which remind you stichs out like a sore thumb and hurts like hell or go get it removed and take a change of more complications or for my condition to get worse. I am so frustrated that I can't get an answer or the problem just taken care of. Sad to say my Plastic surgeon really doesn't seem to be concerned. Seems like once they get you money then they are done with you. My orignal plastic surgery was done almost a year ago and these are the problems a year later I am still having. Which is why I have not gone through with my breast lift surgery. My most recent MRI of the knee shows it is just smaller than the size of a golfball. I am not saying this will all happen to you, because the rest of my surgerys went fine. I do know of others that are having similar problems as I am with there inner thigh surgery as well. Best of luck to you on your plastic surgery adventure.
P.S I have a $200 balance with my Plastic surgeons office now and can't bring myself to pay this money....when I STILL have the problem.

Hi Lauri,
I am actually brand new to this board as I just moved to the area. I am in the process of looking for a plastic surgeon and I came across your post. I am so sorry to read about all the trouble you have had. I looked at your profile and you look great and very happy.
Have you spoken to your Doctor about your concerns? Because as frustrated as you may be, I wouldn't assume she doesn't care. It sounds as if the problems you are having are being handled appropriately.
As far as the bill you have with your Doctor (and I am sorry if I sound like the barer of bad news but I am a medical biller) it sounds like the co-pays are for your office visits. Was your surgery covered by insurance? Unfortunately if it was, the Doctor is correct in charging you for your co-pays. If it wasn't covered by insurance then you may have a point.
I just thought I may be of help with the little knowledge I have. I hope everything gets better for you.

I wouldn't give the ps another penny! Have you talked with a different surgeon to see their suggestions? I would definately seek legal help as well. Make sure to keep pictures too.
I had no idea you was going through this. I have heard the arms and legs were very painful to have done though. My legs look horrible, but i don't think i want to this one. I'l just keep sporting my capris or longer shorts, that's fine with me. I hope you find the relief you need, you sure deserve it.
Hugs
Linda
