Hi D, I just had that done too! they removed my lap band and moved on to the bigger and better surgery on 5-25. I had my Lap band done @ port huron 3.5 years ago and had very mixed emotions about having the new surgery and removing it. The band caused me many problems and I really don't miss it. E mail me anytime and I will tell ya about how it all went.....but so far so good! I don't know if people would even understand the Lap band and the problems it causes.....I know now that I would never talk anyone into the lap band....for many different reasons. Hugs Maria

Maria, Sorry you had problems with your lap band. I had my lap band surgery in March of 2005 and have not experinced any problems at all. While my loss has been much slower then those with RNY, I have been able to maintain it - something I would could never do before my band. I love my band! Good luck to both you and D with your revisions. Mary C

Mary C, Thanks for your input. I am very happy that your band is doing great for you, for some people it has become a problem as the years go on. I was so happy the day I knew I was getting " banded " I knew life would be so different for me.....I was one of the first 200 people in Michigan to receive the Lap band. The first year was wonderful....then year 2 and 3 became a nightmare, 2 revisions on my port etc. It's not fun when you can't eat your first meal till after 2 in the afternoon because nothing will stay down because of the gastric juices sitting on the top of the band I did not come up with the idea to move forward with the rny, my lap band dr did. I was crushed that day, I wanted my band to work so bad that I cried & cried and felt like I had failed. My band area would swell up so bad at times it would be 3 to 4 days before I could eat again because food would not stay down. Every time I would see my lap band dr he would say "your not failing the band...the band is failing you" but who in the world is going to believe that ,we are women...we blame ourselves for everything...lol. Come to find out, he was right.....my rny went well and the band was placed incorrectly the whole time and to think....I blamed myself because the band did not work . Sigh I know my road ahead with the rny will not be easy, I am praying I did make the right decision and and I become the healthy person I need to be and it keeps me alive. I wish the band did......Its not for everyone and I have learned not to assume or judge"anything in life........the lap band did teach me that! sheesh...sorry so long.... Hugs and good luck Maria 05/25/06 352/323

Maria the same thing happened to me. The first year was great and then...... things went down hill. I go days without being able to eat too. I am only at .4cc and I am so swollen at times its ridiculous. I wouldnt even listen to my doc about revision until recently because I felt just like you. I didnt want to fail the band. I loved the concept of the band, which is why I chose it to begin with. Anyway, I hope my revision goes as well as yours did Danielle

Hello I have not had the revision from Lap Band to RNY but my surgeon is Dr. Pleatman. If you have 60 pounds or so, the Lap band is great, but over 120 pounds I would advise the RNY. I do want to add that Dr. Pleatman is very good and I would only recommend RNY if Dr. Pleatman was the surgeon. Dr. Pleatman also has an excellent after care program and a Nutritionist at the office for follow up., I may have met you at one of the support group meeting. Take care Janice

Yes I had Dr. Pleatman for RNY May 23. He has many surgeries under his belt. I had heard that the learning curve for Lap RNY is about 100 surgeries. Dont know if that is true for sure but I believe he has exceeded that. I have been happy with him almost 4 weeks post op. Very good resourses at his office.
