Hi ya! This will be my first post here so please be gentle. My surgery was 2 weeks ago and I had the open Roux-en-y procedure, so far so good. I am having a terrible time with nausea and it will not stop. I have started on the soft food phase and no sooner I eat something I feel like I'm going to be sick, Is this normal? I know I need to adjust to my new stomach but it just never goes away. I am on Zofran and that's not even helping. My body also does not want to give up any weight, anyone else have his situation in the beginning? I have not lost a pound yet....my emotions are all over the place and I know once I start to drop, I will feel so much better. Anyone that feels like helping...please do! God know's...I can use all the help I can get...lol...have a wonderful day ! Thanks Maria

I had open RNY also, July 19, 2005. I experienced many things, some of which were not only nausea but just not being able to eat much. Your body is adjusting to the new size of your pouch, and i would feel that perhaps what you are eating may be too soon for you? Perhaps seeing a dietician, or as well call them here "nut" for nutrionist, might be of some help for you. I took Phenergan pills after I was 4 weeks out when I got nauseated, but I found that there were so many things I could no longer tolerate. Dairy, and anything creamy, bothered me terribly, so I never started out with protein drinks made with milk. Even Skim milk bothered me. I lost 24 pounds in the first month, and it eventually will change for you as everyone's body is different. I understand the emotions, as just as I had my pre-op appointment, the same day, my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I had to decide to pursue the surgery, and with their blessings, though I didn't need it, I did proceed. If in another week you are still frustrated, perhaps contact your surgeon and talk to them about what's going on for you. I have an excellent surgeon and his staff are always available for any questions or problems that arise. Take this in baby steps, take one day at a time, and start a journal of what you are eating and drinking and how you react to it and perhaps that may help clarify why you get ill so soon. It did for me. I hope this is of some help for you. Hugs Stacey

Stacey, Thanks so much....Peanut butter and crackers do stay down for me..... 1/2 teaspoon and 3 Ritz crackers. I will be talking to my Nut on Monday and will go from there. I did have mashed potatoes for my birthday dinner tonight with beneprotein .I take lots of time to eat....that I do not rush! I'm still trying to find a protein that I can tolerate at this point, too much protein make me so ill. I will be working with my MD's nut VS. My surgeon's. I tired spending time with her on Tuesday by she cut me off because she was too busy. Ever since then I have pretty much been in tears but I will work through that with my MD. Once again, thanks so much for answering my post....and taking the time too! Thanks, Maria

Maria, It was so nice meeting you in Kroger's today. I'm sorry that I couldn't be more help with the eating issues. I see that someone did suggest crackers. I hope that the nutritionist can help you tomorrow. Jeanne

Maria~ I am sorry you are not feeling so good. The first thing I thought of when I read your post is that maybe you have a stricture? I am about one year out and I had a stricture that I let go for too long thinking that I was just experiencing nausea from the surgery. I suggest you talk to your surgeon and tell him exactly how you are feeling. I hope this helps! Sandra

Tigan suppositories! Call the doctor, if these don't help, you have a different problem. They are hard to get in after surgery so you may need an assistant, but I guarantee relief from nauseau, if it is just a simple case of the quesies. Good luck and welcome to the loser's bench! Wendy

Sorry fellow co-worker!!! I have been away all weekend, first a funeral for the mom of my best friend growing up (yes I called her auntie), and then I left for the border again as soon as the funeral was over. I might be inclinded to agree with the stricture concept if you were a little further out.... once doesn't normally see stricture for at least a month or two. Remember what I told you when you are not successful with one type of food try going back to what worked before, also keep in mind that there are sometimes that you just have to realllllllllllllllly slow down, it would be nothing for me to take an hour to finish 4 oz of protein shake at the point you are right now. Remember this too....food that has been your friend for so long is no longer important, nutrition is!! So if your protein can go down 2 oz at a time then take what you can get. Don't pu**** don't hurry. Step back and remember you have a little tiny baby tummy now not a full size football size adult tummy. I will call you when I get back to the states later tonight....My snuggle bunny says "heyyyyyyy" waving his gay boy hand at ya!!!! you gotta meet girlfriend LOL Talk To Ya Later!!! Jill

Try eating a little more often and much smaller. Warm tea is also cool. It might help but that is usually pare for the course at this stage. Feel better. You ROCK!!! kp
