1 week postop today. And I am dying to get in the swimming pool....Doc said 2 weeks, I think he is being overcautious. I had the lap RNY, all the incision sites are healing ok, I feel wonderful, I need sun and water!!! What do you all think? Dare I go in today???

If your Dr said 2 weeks you better wait...you don't want any infection setting in on your incisions...they might be healed over and all but I think if it was me I would wait another week...just my opinion Hugs Judy

You should follow surgeon's orders!!! You could just dangle your feet in to cool you off though. I definately think that swimming with an open wound is NOT a good thing to do!! I was scared even with taking a shower. Better take it easy for another week - there will be lots of summer left to enjoy after next week. Hugs, Laurie

I have the same problem - - Imy doc said 2 weeks too. I have unlimited access to my friends' pool the whole time I'm off and I have to wait until next week.

Listen to your doctor. If he said swimming for two weeks, then don't do it!! If you have to, just soak your feet in the water.

Risk of infection is much too high in a swimming pool, hot tub, or any "public bathing facility" by public I mean water that is not changed daily or others might use. Your sites might feel healed but trust me there is too much room for infection. I too love my swimming and have a hottub in my backyard but wouldn't dare come close to one until about 3 weeks after my surgery. I had surgery May 8th and just went in my hot tub for the first time this past weekend. You see I suffered greatly with an infection (internal) after surgery in the past and understood well why they ask you to stay outta the water!!! Be careful about too much sun too, while you might feel better, your body is working really hard right now and the sun isn't your best friend. Heat stroke and dehydration can happen very easily after surgery of any kind. As Laurie said sit on the edge splash your feet in the water and the water and sun will be there when your body is fully healed. Jill
