Why can't people mind their own buisness?????????

It didn't occur to my dad that I might not want to discuss this with his friends so he told them all. My plan is the Miss Manners approach. When ask the direct question, simply say "I heard that we were in for rain, I hope it won't hurt the crops." The really pushy ones (I expect there will be some) will be asked how their IRS audit is going, or if their parents ever did get married. Really, we don't owe anyone any information we don't want to give. The dear hearts who are just clueless will get "I really prefer not to discuss such personal things" because I don't want to blast them unnecessarily.
