Hi guys - I'm almost two years post-Open RNY - I have been in a lot of pain since Saturday in my back on the left around the kidney area. I have no pain on urination but do have a little frequency. The pain goes for sharp to what I call spasms. Two Extra Strength Tylenol did not even tough the pain. I ended up taking an Ultram which is a stronger pain med that I use for my back and it did help some but when the med dies down the pain starts back up. Have a call into my doctor but since he isn't my surgeon for the RNY thought I would see if any of you have had a problem and if so could you explain your symptoms. The pain is almost constant, no fever.

I have had a couple kidney stones - the pain was awful - nothing over the counter helped - mine would come and go, though, a couple times per month and they thought it was an ovary at first. I finally went to ER and they did a regular xray and the stone showed up.

Boy do I know Kidney Stones! I think they like me! I am three years out. Since last May I have had 5. Not fun!!! The pain is HORRIBLE. I told the ER Dr that I would rather give birth to 10 babies at once. I usually get a urinary infection the day before, sort of like my warning I guess. Then I get pain going down my leg from the groin on down and then the severe back pain starts. I usually have Vicodin on hand because I have so many. But Vicodin sometimes does not help, it just eases the pain some. I had one last year that sent me to the ER and I had to have two pain shots before I got any relief. I have been able to pass every one of my stones within a day or two after the pain starts. Get checked out and have them do a KUB and a CAT Scan. Take Care and I hope the best for you!!
