Howdy, this is my first post. I am excited to talk with people that live in my State. I live in Davison, MI. It is about 10 miles East of Flint and about 45 miles North of Detroit. I have not had surgery yet. I am still waiting for insurance approval and my psych. evaluation. I have a question for all post op...I have been trying to give up pop now, before surgery. Is it easier to fight those cravings after? I am getting the lapband. I would appreciate any feedback ya all got. Thanks.

Well, welcome Tammy! I hope all your pre op goes well! I am having surgery on July 17th and I haven't given up pop yet either. It is hard isn't it. Last time I gave up pop I went to flavored waters first. That made it so much easier. I am giving up pop the 17 of June. Wish me luck! GOOD LUCK! Di

Hi Tammy, WELCOME to the Michigan board! I love this sight, so many people willing to help. I am not sure how they handle the pre-op diets for Lap band. I am having Laproscopic RNY. I will tell you this... If you can start to give up some of that stuff now... I would defiantly do it. I learned this the hard way. Now I am paying for it.. In the form of a 18 day liquid diet, because I gained weight!! I WISH I would have listened to my Surgeon and his Nurse who told me to start with my life change immediately. But in my mind I thought..."My life changes on June 14th" (my surgery date) when in reality, my life should have changed when I made the decision to have surgery. When I gave up Pop, I actually found the individual sizes of sugar free Wyler's lemonade at Walgreen's. They come in little packets that you can add to a bottle of water. I know that this may not substitute for Pop, but I found that if I had flavor.. I was OK. And you get your water in. Good luck in your upcoming surgery!!!!! Kathy

Hi, thank you. My Husband is reading this over my shoulder and poking me saying, "See, See!". He has been telling me this for awhile. I shouldn't let POP get in the way of my weight loss goals. This is a life changing event and that includes loosing the POP. Thank you for your post.

Hi there! Welcome to OH Michigan.... I am pre-op (My date with Dr. Farhan is June 26th)... and I have to tell you, giving up on pop has not been all that bad. I have not had pop since the middle of March and I have lost 14 pounds. I am amazed at how good I feel, too. The first few days I had to conciously tell myself "NO" - but now I have found myself hoooked on Lipton's Diet Green Tea with Citrus. They are fantastic! I don't miss pop at all... I can tell a difference between carbonated and non-carbonated, too. I don't feel so bloated all the time. My husband and I lived in Davison for 4 1/2 years before moving back to Owosso in 2002. We really loved that town... my PCP is there, too. Best of luck to you on your journey... don't be a stranger. The folks here are awesome!! Brandee

Thank you for the nice welcome! I love Davison too! I will have to really research what non-carbonated beverages are out there, before giving up.

Thank you for your support, I will read your profile. Please read mine. Not much there yet. My main office for work in Macomb. I have to go there at least twice a year. It sure is a busy town. I forget what that main freeway is that goes through there I27(?), but brother is that scary to drive on. Love the shopping down there.

Thanks you guys. I have had three pops in a week, but I am finding it in every social event. At work, I did discover cyrstal light packets for the water bottles. I enjoy them especially when they are really cold. But boy, sometimes I wish I had a bottle of diet pepsi by side. If I have your support, I think I can try harder. Best wishes too!

I use to drink a lot of pop (4-5 20oz a day), I tried a sip of pop after surgery and the taste is nasty. so don t worry if you don t give it up before you will after. 11 1/2 weeks out and 67lbs down . best of luck
