I have been kicked out of better places!
So, we have had this camping trip planned for months. We get there and we have three sites together. Matt and I were the first ones there. The sites were the worst sites on the campground. One was nothing but dirt and mud and the other was all rocks. There was no grass and the ground was very uneven and hilly. It was almost in the woods and there was no sun to be had on these spots. It was almost like they added these as an afterthought. One was even just drawn on the map. We use a tent and I was furious. I was not staying there and camping either on mud or rocks for three days. I had a fit. They refused to refund our money and because I would not let up they escorted us out of the park.
I got thrown out of a hicktown campground! Granted I can be a ***** but I had every right to be. We sent them our money before they even started booking and they gave us the ****tiest sites they had.
In an hour I am calling the state sties to see if there are any cancellations so we can salvage part of our weekend. The car is still packed. Cross your fingers I am going to try out my new running shoes now.

It is because of sites like this that I only camp at state sites. They are much better maintained and more woodsy. I prefer if I am camping to be with wilderness not with a heated pool, and activites planned.
Although I do love the access to electric to cook, and the showers. I camp with a tent too. This is the first year in a long time we are not out there camping. I am missing it greatly. It was really hard last night not to come home and head out somewhere.

at this point if i was in your shoes i would wait till i was calm and then write some carefully worded letters to the park mgmt AND CC them some letters to camping reviews in an attempt to get them to rectify the situation (refund your money, offer you free camping in the future in bettter sites etc.) Sometimes employees forget that it's in the businesses best interests to keep their customers happy and to encourage them to return and become faithful to the business. At my job we try to look at unhappy customers as an opportunity to create a loyal customer (by fixing the problem and going above and beyond to make them feel apreciated).
none of that will help with your weekend but perhaps it will lead to getting your money back or at least allowing you to vent some feelings.
good luck.
Hi Terri
I don't blame you for being upset over this!! I know that I would have been also!! Have you ever camped there before? If you have then you should have made sure what sites that you wanted together so there wouldn't have been a problem. If this was your first time there it sure stinks getting the bad spots!! We have always camped at East Tawas or the KOA campgrounds. But we have been to several others and have never really had a bad spot like you are talking about...I feel so bad for you and man with the price of gas to travel. Hope you can have a better holiday!!
