Good Day my fellow losers...... I come to you with a teeny prayer request or 'positive vibes my way' thingy. Tomorrow at 1115am I have to endure one of the most horrifying things "I" can ever endure. A root canal. My experiences with dentists are frightening, horrible, terrifying, traumatic and one that I despise more than anything in life. BUT, since I devoted my life to caring for my body, I need to care for my teeth better as well. So I took this on, and am running scared. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME I'VE BEEN SO SCARED I NEARLY CANCELLED. With that said, understand my fears are HUMONGOUS. No matter what anyone says, I am just chicken doo doo and the anxieties are ever so present. My wls surgeon approved a panic med to calm me down since my dentist doesn't offer the 'gas' that doesn't stink....but this is also a test for her to see how she handles me the "chicken" of the USA.....I need about 5 grand worth of work done (ins will pay about half of that)..... SO I'M ASKING.....OK, BEGGING, FOR YOUR THOUGHTS AND WELL WISHES FOR ME TOMORROW AS I SIT IN THE DENTIST CHAIR FOR A ROOT CANAL. I'LL BE SLIGHTLY SEDATED WITH THE MED THAT WAS PRESCRIBED (NICE ONE BTW)........ thank you in advance and I will let you know how things go......hopefully I'll survive... Thanks!!!

Stacey, I hear you my sister in kind! I'm beyond terrified of the dentist. I read your post and thought, that's me.... only without the rootcanel. I've had them pull the tooth rather than do the RC because I'm way to chicken. I grew up with the novicane not working and so many cavities as a child it wasn't even funny. You have my prayers! Hang in there Stacey. A few years ago I went in for a filling and ended up having to have and emergency root canal. Maybe it's because I didn't have time to build up anxiety over it (which I can do with the best of them..trust me!!)... but I did not feel a thing!!!! It never hurt one bit. Just remember, if the Dr. doesn't tell you, to keep your eyes closed while they are doing it. My Dr. told me to do that and I think it helped..that way I didn't see the tools and them taking the nerve out .. but there was NEVER any pain. Even when I got home and the numbing wore off.. .no pain. I pray that yours goes as smoothly. You are taking care of yourself and that's a great thing. It will be over before you know it. Don't work yourself up for something that may not be as bad as you anticipate. Blessings, Kim

Stacey, I feel the same way you do!!! I go to my dentist on a regualr basis but I get so worked up before. When I was young I was so afraid of needles and I had a lot of cavities so I wouldn't take anything for the pain. Now, they have to give me extra to numb me up good and it wears off fast. Go figure. Good luck! Take some relaxing music with you. I usually sit there and say prayer after prayer....it is never that bad but like I said I get myself so worked up! Nancy

Thanks....I'm taking my MP3 player, and my professional headphones (sony-from when I was a radio DJ-not el cheapos to say the least) and a friend to take me and bring me home because I plan to be drugged. For the most part, you are right, I am totally working myself up about this but... I BELIEVE A HIGHER POWER WILL INTERVENE AND MAKE ME COMFY AND THIS WILL ALL BE FINE. At least I know that in my heart. talk to you all this weekend............company coming in this afternoon and busy at the ranch saturday (getting in three new horses!!!!!!!!) hugs all

Stacey i am as scared of the dentist as they come....when i was younger a dentist pulled my tooth and cracked my jaw, i ended up with my teeth wired shut for ninety days and was in lots of pain. But let me tell you this, i just had a root canal finished last week and it did not hurt a bit! i did take some tylenol before cause i hate the shot, but the work itself was nothing . My dentist knows what a chicken i am since he is a family friend, but he doesn't give me any special treatment. This is the fourth root canal in about three years, now if i was getting my tooth pulled it's a different story! You will be fine, and since you're gonna be drugged, you probably won't even remember it. Just take it easy and if you get scared squeeze the handles of the chair. I'll be praying for you to feel at ease. Hugs Linda

Hey Stacey....I have a fantastic dentist and I never ever feel any pain...he is the best!! And if your dentist is a good dentist...he will be more than gentle with you!!! Just be sure to tell him how scared you are of this root canal and s/he might just give you an extra shot of pain killer!! And also keep your eyes closed so you don't see what they are doing to you!!! It really helps....and also grab hold of the arm rests and squeeze the dickens out of them!!!! Will say a prayer for you!!! Good Luck!!! Judy

OMG!!! You sound just like me, I would rather be put under general anesthesia than have instruments in my teeth. I dread it every time, but when its over, I always say to myself that it wasnt that bad. I will be thinking of you
