Gaining weight!

It's not much, but the scale is definitely going in the wrong direction! I've gained 3 pounds since last Thursday. I checked the scale, asked around the house to see if anyone messed with it....and found that the scale is probably telling the truth. I am not going to panic (anymore!) and I am going to nip this in the bud. I am very routine about what I eat, normally. However, I bought a huge bag of these peanut butter pretzels from Costco and I have been eating those from time to time throughout the day. They aren't bad, I could have a few every now and then but not every day. I really don't want this to turn into a 10 pound gain, 15 pound gain, etc. My one year anniversary is coming up in June and this is not how I want to feel when it comes around! Sandra

Sandra- I feel your pain. I have gained about 5-7 lbs also (depends on the day) and have been freaking out. My hubby could tell something was wrong Monday morning. I was up 8 lbs from my lowest. OMG!!!! What am I doing to myself?????? I decided to get back to basics and cut out the carbs....and sugar. I know I have been eating things I shouldn't such as chex mix, crackers, chips, etc. Soooooo, no more. I am concentrating on my protein and water this week. Down 2 lbs this morning - had to check since I seemed to be peeing all day long. Anyway, keep your chip up and get back to the basics and concentrate on what your suppose to be doing and I'm sure all will get back on track. Teri

Teri~ I think that's great advice. I don't eat a lot of carbs (uh, well, except for the pretzels I explained before!) but I certainly could try going back to basics . I have never had trouble getting water in but I could stand to increase it. Why are you "Jewelrymom"? Do you make or sell jewelry? Sandra

Do you have an addiction to pretzels? I was reading your reply here and got that impression. I am sooooooooooooo addicted to them! Why is that?

Alita~ I wouldn't go so far as calling it an addiction but I do like pretzels. I guess since I don't eat much in the way of carbs and pretzels are something I feel OK about eating, I had an issue with the pretzels and peanut butter and felt like I had gone overboard. The ones I really like are the honey wheat twists by rold gold. Those are sweet and taste like cookies to me. I know...weird!

If you are using a digital scale and you get on it regularly (more than twice a week) it may need a new battery. This MAKES a world of difference. I never knew that until recently. When the battery is low it can act a bit fruity. A few pretzels here and there is not going to give you a 3 pound weight gain over he weekend. I also noticed that constipation can cause weigth gain (makes since cause the trash is still hanging out verse going to the dump). Try the new battery befor eyou severely punish yourself. Good Luck! ~Sandy

Sandy~ Thanks for the battery idea. Unfortunately I have a regular scale. No battery to replace. I do have the other problem though. Maybe I should increase the water and Fiber Choice for a few days? I think the idea that the pretzels were making me gain the weight is just me being paranoid since I don't usually eat things like that. Sandra

My surgeon's office has a scale that calculates BMI, Body Fat, Body Mass, Fat Percentage, all based on my height and age. Now, when I've gained weight, I've lost fat mass, fat percentage and my BMI drops which indicates I AM GAINING MUSCLE. So don't let this confuse you. If you are truly gaining weight you may be gaining muscle! Remember, muscle weighs more than fat, and we want our muscle mass to increase. I'd look into one of these scales at a hospital or doctors office so that you can accurately get the facts. Hope this helps!

That's a great idea. The last time I was at the surgeon's office they did not have a scale like the one you described but it's worth asking about. Maybe all these months of using the treadmill are paying off and it's muscle weight gain, huh? I've been working outside a lot too - maybe all the weed pulling, branch trimming and flower planting has paid off? I'm kidding. I sure hope you are right though. My fear is that I'll let this turn into a bigger gain which is NOT where I want to go. Thanks for the support! Sandra

Not to discount anything but don't you ladies lose and gain weight according to your cycles? Could this little gain be because of tha****er weight? Even if it is a real gain these things happen to us and after a while the scale goes the other way too. I wouldn't get too worked up over it. Just put everything in check and see if you need to modify your intake a little. You'll be fine. kp
