Going to have surgery but so very afraid.
Hi all I am going to have this surgery because I don't want to die but, I am so afraid I don't know what to do. I am the type of person that is afraid of alot of stuff but will still go through with it. BUt I must say this is my biggest indevour. Can I get a few words of incouragement from those of you that have been through it. I am 31 and 423lbs. I have so many health problems taht if I don't do it I won't last to much longer.
you sound just like me less than a month ago. Ask the people here. I was terrifed! Crying everyday. But I had faith and Hope. And I am now Ok. My surgery was the 15th of March. Im doing fine. Feeling good. And you will too hun! Its a day by day process and it only will get better. This surgery is not a "cure" but a tool to help. And if you have all these health problems then GO FOR IT. We will be here for you hun!

Nneka Honey -
I'm sending you a BIG cyber HUG!!!!
Fear is a normal part of the wls process. It's a serious surgery. It's a life changing event, and it not only effects you but your family and those around you as well!! BUT - it effect you in a GOOD way!!!
As the weight comes off you just get more and more excited!! As you gain MOBILITY!!!! As you gain STRENGTH!!! As your HEALTH improves and you medications decrease. As you shrink OUT of your clothes - you just know more and more that you did the right thing!!!!
This is the BEST thing I've done for myself!!!!!!!! Even with complications - I'd do it all over again tomorrow if I needed to.
I'm 11 months out now. I'm below goal and getting ready for hernia repair and TT next week.
Before I couldn't walk through WalMart - now I walk 5 miles per day!!
Before I couldn't sleep without a cpap machine - now I have no need for one!!
Before I couldn't bend over and tie my shoe - now I am doing pilates AND I can paint my own toe nails!!
Before I couldn't walk up and down a flight of stairs - now I can RUN up and down a flight of stairs multiple times without being out of breath!!
Make up a list of all the things you want to do as you loose weight. Post it on you fridge and ENJOY marking them all off as you loose weight and accomplish what you thought you'd never be able to do again!!!!
Focus on those things and it'll help tame down the fear.
Blessing to you
Laurie
Hi Nneka,
You are quite normal to be afraid. We all get like this at some point on our journeys. You will be fine. It's not as bad as you may think. Right after my surgery I had pain in my left shoulder, and left side. One push of "the button" cured that! I loved "The Button". The next day I was pain free, and feeling good. pre-op I mostly laid in bed or on the couch. I used a cane to walk, and could only walk for about 2 minutes at a time before I had to stop and rest for a while. I seldom left my house. Even the simplest things were a chore. Now I don't need my cane, I can walk anywhere I want to. I roller skate and roller blade. I am active. You will never find me laying around on the couch. I don't even watch TV anymore.
Life is good and I enjoy living instead of just existing. I am even going to fulfill a lifelong dream this September, I'm going skydiving. If you truly don't want to die have this surgery, because without it (sooner or later) you will die, from the effects of being super obese. You can do this, and will be much healthier and happier having done it.
God bless you,
Annette

Hi Nneka
I was 360 pounds when i had surgery, and didn't know i had sleep apnea. I fought the insurance for a year to get approved and was so sure i wanted this...i almost backed out the morning of surgery. Thank God i didn't !! If i had not done this surgery i probably would have been dead in a matter of months....my sleep apnea was that severe (you can read my profile). I thank God every single day for giving me back my life, everything is so different now.
We will all be here for you, and you can email me anytime you need.
Hugs
Linda

I was SOOOOOOOOOOO scared too. I had my surgery a month ago and it was the best thing in the world. I didnt think that the day I got OUT of surgery, but after that I was fine and knew I made the best decision of my life. I had plantar facitis (pain in the feet really bad) and after I lost my first 15 pounds, It was GONE!!! It was very painful to even walk, I was in agony. Now that there is not as much pressure on my feet they are all healed up. This surgery is a miracle tool!!
Hi Nneka,
It is perfectly normal to be a little scared prior to the surgery. I think most of us were. However, the likelihood of something adverse happening to you during surgery is much much smaller than what may happen if you do not have it and remain at your current weight. Right? Focus on that and I think you will be more at peace with this.
Be sure to keep us posted on your progress. What is your surgery date?
Hugzzz,
Pam
Hey Nneka,
Everything will be fine. God has a reason for everything and you are doing this thru his grace. I will keep you in my prayers and he will protect you. I started off at 309 I had my surgery in january and I am at 225 now. I feel great. Don't get me wrong some of it is hard but it is sooooo worth it. My kids are happier and my husband is happier. Who are you going thru? Just keep the results in mind not the worries because that is the devil attacking and God wont let him win. Bless you!
