OT: Postal question

Ok, I just realized how dumb I am. I sent my appeal package certified mail, but forgot to ask for return receipt, which proves it was delivered. However, I can still track it online. It says it arrived at "unit" Detroit 48202 April 4 at 1:54 pm. What does that mean? Does that mean it arrived at the Detroit post office branch, or does that mean it arrived at its destination address? It only gives city and zip and not full address. Im thinking that means the Detroit post office, but I don't know.

i think it's the post office, but i'm not sure. Is the zip the same as where you mailed it to? I bet you're on pins and needles. I'm hoping for the best!! Hugs Linda

Yes, HAPs main office zip is also 48202. Im thinking unit has to mean post office. I'll check the tracking again tomorrow.

I'm retired from the Post Office. It does means the post office. Check tonight. If the carrier had a scanner with him/her today, the information doesn't get an input until they return to the post office late this afternoon.

Hi Colleen, I called the post office. She said yes that means it arrived at the Detroit post office. It will say delivered, or attempted delivery when it reaches it's destination. God bless you, Annette

Thanks for checking on that Annette, I didn't think to call and ask. You are a sweetie!

You will be able to check on line to see when it was delivered. If you need a signature as proof, you can pay an additional fee and get it at your post office (after delivery). I think it is about a $3 fee if requested without the return card. The PO can get it off their computer for you. I work at the post office now, but we do not get many requests for the signature after delivery. Most people pay for the return card, it's cheaper.
