Need Suggestions, I'm Barfing...Help!
Hi,
Today its been 2 month's since my surgery. I thought by now, I would be doing better than I am. I have quite a bit of nausea and have what I call "Spitting Up" or throwing up. Yesterday, it went beyond spitting up to actually throwing up-ALOT. Everytime I tried to even drink a sip, I would barf. I honestly don't know where all of what I barfed up, came from. I did this for a total of 4 times.
Today, I am feeling better. I got up and had a popcicle and that stayed down, so then I had 1/4 cup oatmeal w/some raisins. That also has stayed with me. No nausea, thank God.
I don't understand why I am having such a time of it. I'm careful to not drink anything 1/2 hour before I eat, eat aprox 1/4-1/2 cup of food and then I don't drink again for at least 45 minutes. Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks, Normie
I know how you feel. I'm close to 9 months post op and I get sick now and then. A close friend of mine said I need to have my surgeon check it out.
But what I've come to realize is that we now (post RNY/WLS) can only handle certain things. Not like before. It's a dramatic change that has occured inside and your new pouch is similar to an infants stomach. Small and fragile, and it doesn't accept the same things we use to eat.
I suppose my only comment or suggestion for you would be to keep a journal or diary of what you have eaten, and how you reacted to it. I found that what made me sick yesterday, I won't eat again for several months. It could simply be that food. I also cannot tolerate left overs. Literally, they make me ill. So I prepare just enough for one meal. Which, for 1 person is difficult. But you learn to adapt.
If you feel that this is very abnormal and are very concerned, your surgeon is there to provide answers for you, call him/her and speak to the nurse.
I would in a heartbeat if I were concerned over anything that was going on with me.
Hope this helps
I will go back to my old saying here. Every day is a new adventure. What works one day may not the next. If some of your stuff is staying and some is coming back for an encore then you may be eating too fast, not chewing enough, not eating frequently enough, becoming lactose intolerant, starting a stricture or starting a bowel obstruction but if no pain is present then it's probably not the later.
Cut the dairy out and slow/chew some more and see if that helps. Maybe eat a little more frequently and see if that helps.
When you do get to feeling rough try the Toni trick she gave me and drink warm/hot tea.

HEYYYYYYYYY! I've been looking for you. I posted a "Normie J-where are you?" a few days ago. I'm sorry to hear your having a hard time with the nausea, have you spoke to your surgeon about it???
I hope everything works out and hopefully its not a stricture. Did those recipes help you at all?
I posted some new pics of the kids on my profile.
Praying you'll feel better real soon!!!!

Been wondering where you have been! Sorry you are having a hard time. How long has the nausea been with you? As Kevin says, try some warm liquid. I lived on alot of warm tea. I ALWAYS start my morning out with hot tea before I start with anything. It will relax your pouch and get it ready for anything else. I make it a rule to NEVER start my day off with something cold, if I do then my breakfast will not like me and I usually bring it back up! Also like Kevin says, REALLY think of chewing. Don't do anything while you are eating and chew the heck out of your food. Sometimes I will find myself chewing my food over 100 times because I am really concentrating of chewing. You can never be an over-chewer!! Also remember about the lactose thing. You could very well be getting that way. If the nausea and vomitting just started, remember the stomach flu is rampade right now! Fever, vomitting and nausea are a sure sign! Takes about 1 week to get rid of it! I hope you feel better real soon! Don't hesitate to give me a yell. I am home from Florida now! You got my number!!!
