Does protein = Gas Pain?
I'm preop, but trying to ready myself for life after surgery by trying protein powders. I've been tracking my food intake on fitday.com and have tried to get more protein, less carbs to get used to the post op life. Anyway, I've had awful gas pain ( which Im unable to pass) ahem! So I was curious if this is due solely to change in diet or a side effect of high protein diets? Anybody suffer with this? And, just as importantly, which meds work best post op to help ease gas pain? Thanks a bunch! Kathryn p.s. I've lost 3 1/2 lbs in 9 days cool eh?
I've been putting my whey protein in a large glass of water with abit of crystal lite. Crystal lite is soo sweet to me now, I cant imagine wanting to drink it in a month after surgery but who knows??? Anyway I went to GNC and the lady told me to buy papya extract in chewable pill form to aid digestion....hmm??? Ive used it but I cant tell.....
Hi Kathryn
The change in diet can cause the gas. If you use gas-x make sure to get the chewables. They aren't bad at all and work pretty fast, but do walk too. Now about the papaya....if you are not used to papaya, it has a laxative effect that comes with stomach cramping...you might want to look into that.
