What do you miss MOST.
I have gotten so used to eating healthy I don't really miss anything. I enjoy the foods I can have and don't really think about the ones I shouldn't have. Two days ago however, I had such a strong craving for a big mac that I could just about taste it. I thought about getting one tasting it and spitting it out ~that's sick~needless to say I got my head together, and went for a walk instead. What do you think you will miss the most?
God bless you,
Annette
Well, I was actually going to ask that in a post at one time Annette.. who out there has actually missed something so much that they shewed something for the taste and then spit it out.... Our brains are powerful things.
What will I miss most? Hmmmm.... I really don't mind eating healthy... but I think it would probably be the fast food..something like what you said.. A big mac or a chicken sandwich from wendy's..or maybe warm chocolate chip cookies with a big glass of milk. I'm sure I'll miss more than I can think of right now because I'm still on this side.. but nothing will make me give up this opportunity. Like you mentioned..I know I will adjust really well to healthy eating and I think my cravings will be few.. I'm sure you start getting the taste for those good things and the bad stuff may not taste the same as I remember... although satan may give me a fight with the head stuff... but he won't win!
I have found that I can replace almost anything I want with something low fat and sugar free, so I don't really care about anything in particular. The sugar-free stuff that has sugar alcohols in it give me such painful gas that I don't care if I have any of that any more. (It's in the s/f ice cream, etc...)
Other than that, I can eat pretty much anything I want, but I just don't want all that junk I used to eat. We never do the fast food thing any more. I think I've had 3 french fries and the grease makes me feel nauseated. Who need that! I truly eat to fuel my body now instead of eating for entertainment. It's been a blessing. Hope that helps, Pam
OK...Confession.
When I was just two weeks out and still on full liquids, I was making macaroni and cheese for my son and I wanted some soooo badly that I put it in my mouth, sucked off all the creamy cheese, and spit the noodles back into the sink. I felt like such a tard!
Moral of the story is...at that time it felt like I would NEVER be able to eat normally again. I have since learned, lol, that that is not the case. As I pre-op, please know that although there are very important lifelong/lifestyle changes that do need to be made in order for you to be successful, you WILL be able to eat real, solid food again before you know it. And, looking back I laugh because there really isn't anything that I miss. I am soooo happy to be on the road to better health!
Now, I am able to eat all sorts of lean meats, fresh veggies, fresh fruits, nuts, etc. and I feel completely satisfied, both physically and mentally. My tastes have changed dramatically and I am no longer the carb junkie that I used to be. This surgery has allowed me to have control over my food choices...not the other way around. You can't imagine how good it feels to be able to have the ability to make a healthy food choice! For me, it is very liberating! (hokey sounding, i know).
Anyways...congrats on your approval and on your continuing journey! It's an interesting ride...

Sweet and Sour Pork with steamed rice from China Inn. Only thing I miss, I actually mourned over it one day....but I'm past that now. And as far as a warm Chocolate Chip cookie with milk goes - make your own!! Hershey makes sugar free chocolate chunks for your cookies and you can use splenda and if you don't mention it, no one will know the difference, not ever you
