I have very much enjoyed reading everyones responses and profiles. Everyone has given me so much positive thinking about having WLS. Just a few minutes ago I called our insurance company, and they say that WLS surgery is excluded. Is this something that they tell people initially? SHould I call back again and see what someone else says?? Do I make an appointment with a surgeon, and have then do their magic with the insurance companies? Do I see about getting medical insurance through my employer?? Any ideas would be great appreciated Curt

My insurance also says it is excluded. I am now 2 weeks post-op. You may have to see your primary doctor to get a referral to a surgeon. Which is what I did. From there, they told me which insurance company's were easier to get approved through. I ended up whiching insurance companys (it was an option at work) and got approved right away. I see you are from Battle Creek which isn't too far from Grand Rapids, which is where I went. MMPC/Dr. Baker did an excellant job for me. I had been trying for about 3 years and now I am here and done and no regrets. Surgeon's do have special codes and the way they word their letters to the insurance to get approval. Definatly need someone who knows what they are doing. Hope this helps some and good luck!!!

So you had to switch insurance companies in order to get your surgery? You didnt have to wait certain period of time after getting thenew insurance before you could use it?? I have thought about maybe seeing if I can get insurance thru my employer, however I dont know when the sign up time is each year. Thanks

My surgeons office kicked but for me at the start. Chuckie rules. I was never denied though and that can be pretty diheartening. See what your surgeons office can do and stay focused. You can do it. kp @ goal
