When will I ever learn??????????????????

In October, I was eating chicken and didn't chew it properly. It landed me in the hospital and eventually getting an endoscope done - my surgeon located a "chunk" of chicken in my stoma that had not been chewed. Since then I have not been allowed to eat chicken or poultry products of any kind because he said it's too sticky and too risky for me right now. Yesterday, I went out to lunch with a friend, and came home and immediately threw it up. I ate dinner last night, and threw it up as well. And today, I have been unable to hold food down. So, I went to see my surgeon. He was in surgery but I saw his PA., and she said that I might have another blockage, which would require another endoscope. She advised me to try to eat something soft and bland tonight. About 430pm I ate a small portion of mashed potatoes and fat free gravy, and up it came. So I guess now the hard part is in the morning, calling my surgeon with the bad news that I just might have a blockage and endure another nasty endoscope. When do we learn? When does the shift occur that prevents us from having this problem? Do we ever learn???? I just need to know....has this happened to you, and what did you do to resolve the problem? I thought I had things under control, but evidently not. Now I'm really a bit upset that I'm just over 8 months post op and possibly having another blockage so soon..................anyone?

whenever i've felt blocked i've managed to throw it up by drinking some warm tea. a few times it's taken a few bouts of puking with a cup of tea in between but i've yet to stay stuck. have i just been lucky or is that method effective? btw, i'm stuck right now. i had some leftover chicken tandoori, it went down fine fresh but i reheated in the microwave (i should also know better by now, that makes the texture rubbery and causes me trouble.) I just threw up but still feel stuck. I don't want to have a blockage, puking is bad enough, i don't want it to lead to the hospital and a scoping.

Jay, Sorry to hear you might be stuck too. I don't do leftovers anymore. I learned the hard way, that the microwave causes food to get rubbery and gooey or aka "sticky". So I quit doing microwave reheats after my bout in October. Hope you get well soon.....I hope you don't need a scope either. Keep me posted...ok?

i'm okay now. i got it out after a bit of throwing up. i hate when that happens though, it's like i have to throw up everything liquified on top of it and then drink more tea to get the chunky piece(s) up. i know it sounds disgusting. it is. last time it happened to me from beef jerky. how are you doing?

I agree HOT tea will help to relax your pouch so that the food will move thru. Sometimes when you start to throw up the pouch will spasm and everything you try and eat will come back. Well for some reason, (I'm not sure if it's the tea itself or the warmth of the tea) it soothes and calms the tummy. It works much of the time if the food item isn't stuck hard. As far as chicken, I have no trouble with it just as long as I stay away from breast meat. It is just to dry. I stay with thighs. Yes, they do have more fat, but at least it is a protien, I just buy boneless and skinless, so the fat isn't really all that much more but it is much more juicy and tender. I have NEVER personally had any trouble with thigh meat, but breast meat can if it's even just a little dry. I hope you are feeling better. Take care and God Bless---Toni

Hey Stacy, I must admit, I am almost a year out and still have to keep reminding myself everytime I eat to chew s-l-o-w. AND w-e-l-l. It's such a drag somedays. I have never had a blockage fortunatly but if I eat fast I get a horribe pain in my pouch and I ask myself the same question. When will I learn? So I will be looking forward to hearing when we will learn.

My mom worked with a fellow that had the same problem a couple times and he actually ate a little meat tenderizer with a little water and that helped. Good luck.
