Has anyone had their Gull Bladder removed after WLS? I am having some troubles with mine. I had an ultrsound done and just waiting to hear from my doctor. Is the surgery painful? Any suggestions about what foods to stay away from for now? Thanks a bunch Tracy

Tracy: I haven't had gall bladder problems, but know of a few that have! People without WLS need to stay away from fried and fatty foods as that will bring on an attack. If you've had surgery, you should be staying away from those foods, anyway. I understand that now with laproscopic surgery, it is not too bad. I know the MMPC doctors do it on a lot of WLS people at Spectrum Health/Blodgett in Grand Rapids. They have a new procedure of using a pain medicine inside the abdominal cavity while doing the surgery and it has made it much less painful (there was a big study done on it, and it is supposed to be the best method!) Could you tell me if you've had pain and how it feels? I have been having some odd pains and wondered if it could be the gall bladder. Thanks and hope my info helps you some! Pam

I had that bad boy taken out after WLS!!! It is done laporscopically. I was surprised at how little pain I had. I only knew I had it removed when I sneezed. The surgery is a breeze. Maybe I was tender but honestly I was so happy with not having the gall bladder pain that anything was better. Good Luck but truthfully DON"T WORRY. Marti L

Tracy, I had my gall bladder removed at the same time I had my open RNY. Since then, I have had no problems but find that foods like vegetables and things that are grainy or with skins (which you should avoid the first several months anyway) cause me problems digestively. My surgeon told me that I didn't need my gall bladder after my surgery so he removed it during the surgery. I have a difficult time eating any seeds (even cucumber, zucchini, yellow squash and sunflower seeds) and any item with skins. For the most part though I just stay away from course things like those mentioned above and I don't eat anything fried or greasy, no pop or soda, and I avoid things high in cholesterol. I wish you well...and hope you find the answers you need here.

I just had my gall bladder removed on the 17th of February. I was developing gall stones and he opted to take the whole thing out. It was done lap and there was not a lot of pain afterwards. I was in and out of the hospital the same day. I was off of work for 2 weeks because he wanted to be sure I did not injure myself or anything. Suzanne 300/150
