Help! I haven't had a good night's sleep in a long time. I'm six weeks post-op and don't have trouble falling asleep, just staying asleep. I go to bed around 9:30 because I am so tired and I wake up anywhere from 12:30 to 5:00. Is this a normal part of recovery? Any suggestions? I feel like a new mom with no sleep!!! Maybe it has to do with being 48 and close to menapause. Please help. Mary Jo

Talk with your doctor, what medications are you taking?? I found that some of the medications I was taking prior to my surgery were actually causing sleep disruption after surgery due to the strength being too strong for me. Just a thought, but that could be part of the problem, things just might need to be regulated, it could be that time . Let me know if that helps, Jill

I had sleep apnea bad before my WLS. Since my surgery, the first few weeks home I had insomnia. My surgeon recommended TYLENOL NIGHT TIME. That has helped me a great deal and it is not addictive. Also I would not consume caffiene after 5pm, (which I don't now), and even those protein shakes with chocolate might contain caffiene because chocolate does have it in it. Check with your surgeon or perhaps a dietician. I am 46 and had gone through early menopause when I was 32 due to cancer and having a hysterectomy. So I had to alter my lifestyle and found that the exercise increase in my life helped me after a while to get a good nights sound sleep. In time you will too. I remember being 6 weeks post op and there were many things going through my mind at night. Try a lavender bath before bed time, and about an hour before bed, turn down the lights, that helps prepare your mind and eyes for sleep, as well as listening to soft relaxing music. Hope that helps get you a peacefull, sleepful night...many of them!
