Hey everybody, I got my date it is 4/17/06. The office called me today with my date. Im so excited. While I was being so happy I had to put in for time off of work and my HR manager was kind of giving me a hard time about it. I just hope she will not be a problem later. My question is how long did you guys wait before having to go back to work having lap RNY. Im a medical assistant I dont have any heavy lifting I do alot of walking and alot of blood draws. All adviced is greatly welcomed Dayja

I'm a teacher and I was off for 2 weeks. I was really tired after I went back to work so I went right home every day and rested. You can't tell ahead of time if you will have complications that will keep you off work longer. A month home would have been nice but my students needed me back to work.

Thanks Diva and Kim. Every little bit of info helps. I know I will probably ask about a thousand questions before my date comes about.

Congrats on the date! Mine is the day after I was wondering the same thing! I am a teacher and am doing it over Spring Break and am off for about 3 weeks. Not sure though if I will have Lap RNY or Open RNY. Doc said he wouldn't know until he started due to a prior abdominal surgery. Anyone know how long for Open RNY until back to work? Again congrats on the date!

I am a teacher and I originally scheduled 4 weeks off, and I ended up needing 5. My friend who just got it done had to take 4 weeks, and she is a teacher. My doc says this is pretty normal because we do so much standing and bending (elementary school) and can't just sit when we get tired. I would think 3 weeks is a little soon, but there are people on here who have done fine in that time. Good luck to you! Bekki 327/150.5/150

Congrats on your date also Randi. My office manager had this procedure done open about 8 months ago. She was off of work for about 6 weeks. I dont think she got up and moved around as much. She said all she did was lay on the couch her whole six weeks. Maybe thats what made the difference for her. I'm going out and buying a treadmill today. Since I dont have any out of pocket expense I'm going to take the money I set aside for any out of pocket expenses for a treadmill.

I am a copy editor and sit at a desk all day. I took three weeks off. Felt pretty good the first two weeks, although I was tired. Then I got a little infection and was miserable. When I did go back to work, I was dragging for a couple of weeks. Everyone is different, so it's hard to say how your body will react. Depends on if there are complications, if they do it lap, etc. I was lucky to have a boss who was very supportive of my surgery and didn't push me to come back too fast. Good luck to you. Eileen
