Had a total thyroidectomy monday, March 6th. Went to have the stitches out yesturday. The results of the pathology showed 3 turmors, 2 different types of cancer. Now I have to go on a low iodine diet for the next 4 weeks and then have a scan to see how much of the cells are left so they can do radiation. I don't know what I'm going to do for protien. You can only have up to 5 oz of fresh meat a day, no dairy, very few types of beans, no egg yokes. No multi vitamins (they contain iodine) and no protien shakes! So, not only will I feel like crap because I have no thyroid hormones, but also because I will become deficient in protien and vitamins I just want to crawl under the bed and cry. At 33, this is the second time I've had to deal with cancer! How much more do I have to go through? I just got back to work less than 2 months ago after taking off almost 4 months healing from the WLS revision! Prayers are needed...Please!

(((((((HUGS)))))))) for you Marsha!!! You are in my thoughts and prayer's!! Keep thinking positive thoughts and you will get through this!! Have you talked to your doc dealing with the cancer and your WLS doc to see if they can come up with some type of solution so that you don't become deficient in your protein and vitamins? Hang in there and keep us updated on your progress!! Hugs, Cheryl

Dearest Marsha, In 1991, I was 31. I was diagnosed with ovarian, uterine and cervical cancer, told that I would most likely never bear children and also told the only way to possibly get rid of it was a hysterectomy. So, on February 21, 1991 I went through a complete abdominal hysterectomy. At the time I was engaged to be married, working a great job, and had little in life going well for my health. I was so sick all the time, I spent more time in a hospital than most normal people ever dream of. (Imagine spending 2 weeks out of the month for over 3 years in a hospital bed!) So I sympathize with you however I want you to know that I believe you can get through this with support and strength, and count me in. I would recommend discussing your dietary needs and concerns with a dietician, Also remember that the low iodine diet is only temporary and I personally am doing fine eating protein bars fish and managing my levels quite well. I would also suggest speaking to who ordered this test be done the condition of your diet and see what's possible. Always ask to see what is possible. Not that you don't but one never knows. Do not cry.....I was 31 and told I could never have kids, and that I had cancer in all of my reproductive organs and they had to be removed. I could not undergo chemotherapy because it was too far advanced and that was my only option. I am so understanding when it comes to cancer as not only have I had it 3 times but my father had it as well. There is a cancer messageboard on this site also - I would recommend posting there as well for more support. Contact me anytime for support dear Marsha....I understand how you are feeling. Honest, I do.

Thank you for the support. I guess we can understand each other. The first time I had cancer...it was Endometrial. I was given 8 days to prepare for a total hysterectomy at age 26. I also gave up my dream of ever having a family of my own. I try to keep my chin up, to keep a sence of humor in it all. At that time, all I could think of was...that they say sex changes after a hysterectomy...but, since I was a virgin at the time (I know...at age 26...wow!), how would I know the difference? LOL So far, I haven't found the humor in this. But, thanks for the support and the website.
