Ok all! I am back from a big trip, and found that road travel is impossible with this surgery! I took protein bars and powder and my hot tea with me and found no time or at least felt like no time to fix this stuff. I did nibble on the protein bars at first, but by the end of the trip they were stuffed in bags and etc. and hard to get to. I threw up alot because restaurants are mostly not bariatric friendly. I don't do meat well and soups and stuff at restaurants are too rich! Does anyone travel alot or have travel experience with this? I have a camper for this summer and I think that will make it better since it has a fridge and stove. But this car travel thing in motels and stuff is hard. Suggestions? Wendy

Oh Wendy - I'm sorry you had a bad trip. I guess the foods I take when I'm going to be gone all day are usually things like protein bars (hint: cut them into small pieces and put in a zip lock bag. For some reason it's easier to eat a little piece at a time then to take a bite of a whole bar), nuts (like almond, cashews, etc), a banana and a jar of peanut butter. Things like that. You could also take instant oatmeals and add some protein into them. Trial and error seems to be the only way to do it. Hugs, Laurie

Hi Wendy: I took my Magic Bullet (blender) with me and zip lock bags of my protein when we were gone for 2 weeks. First week on a cruise, second week in Florida. I did my best each day eating what I could as far as protein. Don't rush through meals, that made me feel sick. You simply have to take your time. Then each night I would get a container of milk and make up my smoothie with ice and protein. If you have trouble getting in calories, add some peanut butter and/or bananas to that shake. Even with getting in a minimum of 80 grams per day, I lost 6 lbs. the first week and about 4 the second week. Then I went skiing a couple weeks later and lost another 4 lbs. I think some of my loss was the high activity level of the vacations. I did feel tired earlier than would be normal for me each day. I also found that eating every two hours helps. If I don't, my pouch does this crampy thing that hurts and stops food from going through when I finally do eat. If I eat every two hours, things keep moving smoothly and without pain. There's no doubt about it, it's hard to get in the calories and protein, but we just have to bite the bullet and do it. I do seem to get a couple pounds back on when I return home, but I have to concentrate on getting the calories up, too. I am where I want to be right now, and don't want to lose any more. Hope that helps, I am on the road alot lately and those are my tips! Pam
