Hi all, I've enjoyed reading what everyone writes, but until now never had any questions. Tomorrow marks 1 week post-op and I'm feeling better everyday. I'm really ready for more than grape/choc protein drinks. I did eat a couple of pieces of boiled potato today and felt much better...not as weak. I know it's important not to eat much and keep up the drinks for the healing, but has anyone else had anything to eat with no problems before the two weeks are up? Also...I'm having trouble sleeping. Was wide awake last night staring at the walls until 6:30 a.m. this morning and then was able to sleep for 3 hours and that's all I've had and here I am again tonight...can't sleep. Anyone else ever had that problem...it's a first for me...I have an 18 month old and normally can't get enough since she never sleeps through the night.

You are not alone, there are a lot of us who were anxious to try foods before our doctor's recommendations. I know it is probably not a lot of consolation, but time will bring you more solid food, as well as uninterrupted sleep all night. Be patient and try not to introduce foods faster than recommended. Let your body heal. Time will pass quicker than you think! I guess the way I thought about it is that the doctor's make recommendations based upon helping us avoid the complications other patients have had. So if you want to avoid problems, follow the recommendations. Best wishes for a great recovery!

I understand about not sleeping...and eating problems seems so huge as a part of the transformation. Before bed, try not to each foods rich in protein as I found that it increases my energy level and I stay awake longer. I found myself eating things long before I was suppose to, and my surgeon said if you find you can tolerate it, in small quantities it's ok, just be careful. Your new pouch is like that of an infant and you need to treat it with extreme care and caution. I use tylenol PM at night when I need a little extra help going to sleep. I also stop drinking caffiene by 5pm or I don't sleep at night. I work 2nd shift but drink decaf anything after 5pm and that helps. Anything with chocolate in it (shakes, drinks) also may contribute to keeping you awake at night because it does contain caffeine. Try soothing music before bedtime and even a nice bubble bath with Lavender to help relax you. Try to work out a routine that helps you relax and settle down for the night ahead and in time, you will. Foods eaten late at night may contribute to sleeplessness so consider speaking with a dietician about what you are eating after 5pm that might contribute to your inability to get to sleep. Wishing you sleepful nights ahead .....
