10 days post op and able to eat a can and a half of soup is this BAD????
I am able to eat 1 to 2 cans of soup for lunch and dinner , a half of cup of oatmeal for breakfast and four oz of protein every two hours (between meals and for two snacks ) is this bad . Did my surgery not work? why am I not getting full after a little bit of soup.
I do get content not full off the oat meal and as soon as I feel like I am getting full I put down my spoon and stop till the next meal or protein time.
I am scared that the surgery didnt work and I am not going to loose weight? I called the surgeons office and they told me everything is ok some people can eat and not get sick or overly full. Has anyone on the board ever heard of this being ok.
I also get a little hungry before the main meals. I am so upset I dont want to be hungry.
I feel fabulos and have been feeling great since the the day I left the hospital (once all the gas was gone) Now I feel good all the time. I am not complaining just worried that stomach is still its origianl size and the pouch opened up.
I get my staples out monday morning with DR. Pesta
please dont bash me for these questions I was really scared posting this but I need advice .
I dont get hunger pains like before so maybe its in my head again like the food grieving that was going on in the begining of the week.
I dont throw up, or dump
I have had sf jello sf choc pudding no sugar added ice cream, tomato soup and oatmeal with skim milk and sweet n low. atkins advantage shakes, pria shakes and slim fast ( low carb)
then my mom adds protein powder and dry milk to the protein drinks in the blender to get as much protein in as possible.
My mom is determined to help me prevent hair loss which I told her it will happen no matter what.
OK so my questions and worries are
1. At ten days post op should I be able to eat 1/2 cup oatmeal with a cup of milk and a bannana (put in blender)
2. 1 1/2 to 2 cans yes cans of soup with a half can skim milk cooked in.
3. 16oz of protein through out the entire day
4. have a feeling of being hungry before the soup times (lunch and dinner)
5. and then also have sf choc pudding with sf cool whip 2 cups in one sitting
6. on a diff day I had one jello cup and one pudding cup both with sf cool whip.
I was weighed the morning of discharge at hospital and then weighed this past monday and the diff was 8 lbs
But now I feel like I havent lost a pound. but my mom and dave are saying I look like I have.
Ok thanks everyone for your time
any adivce or answers would be great.

Angie.
I too had my surgery on the same day! Yeah, we now share the same birthday!
I am sorry that you are having food problems. I was reading your post and there are a few things that you are eating that I don't think you should be already, but if your Dr. said ok, than I guess its ok. Here is what I can eat (per my Dr.) at this time out from surgery.
- Condensed cream soups, but not tomato because of the added sugar and acid.
- sf jello
- sf pudding (but I went to GNC and got the stallone pudding that has
20g of protein in 1 serving) (I don't like the lemon flavor)
- sf carnation instant breakfast
- sf hot chocolate
- protein powder (I like Designer Whey from GNC)
- skim milk
- low sugar yogurt
- water, crystal light, etc.
That is it. Next Wed. I move into the pureed stage.
I can eat about 1/2 c. prepared soup at a sitting. I've been trying only to have soup twice a day so that I can get other higher protein choices in
I am trying to get in my 64 oz. of water, but it is hard. I am getting about 30 oz. I got in 75 g. of protein yesterday, but the day before I got only 49g. I don't know if whip cream is good for you, I know it is sf and all, but is there any protein in it? You should try and only get in things w/ nutritinal value.
Have you talked to your dietian?
Maybe you need to just say, "ok, even though I can eat 2 cans of soup, I'm not going to" and try and drink tons of water to make yourself feel fuller? I'm sorry I don't know the answers, but I will try and help.
Keep your chin up and things will get better. Your feeling good health wise and thats what counts. If ya need me.......I'm here!

Angie-
I think what you are experiencing head hunger. You need to remember that the surgery is a tool not a miracle cure. Please don't think I am bashing you I just think it is something you need to know. I am almost a year and a half out and I still couldn't eat a can and and a half of soup. Don't try to push to see how much you can eat. I would concentrate on eating smaller potions more often. I was told to eat 6 small meals a day. I hope this helps. At 10 days out your pouch is still healing. Don't let you body give way to the head hunger. Welcome to the losers bench.

First of all congrats on coming over to the losing side!! I am happy that everything worked out for your insurance and all.
I experienced the head hunger and everything when I was post op. I could barely watch commericals or be around people that were eating something that smelled good.
I think the most important thing you need to do is portion control. Even though you might be able to put away that amount of food you need to limit yourself. You did this to change your lifestyle. There are days where I feel like I can eat a horse but in the back of my head I keep telling myself I cannot eat like that anymore. I started early on after the surgery eating every 2 hours and that works out really well for me. It helped me through that rough stage at the beginning. Use your dietician and she can help you a lot as well.
I hope everything is fine and you are feeling better soon. Congrats again!

I get so aggravated when people say "It's HEAD HUNGER!" Uh. Not in my case, sistah. No one will ever be able to convince me otherwise, sorry. It's a sore spot with me.
I experienced true, grumbly, rumbly feelings of true physical hunger when I was 2-3 weeks out. The only thing that helped was moving to the pureed/regular foods. The clear liquid/full liquid stage, for ME, was the absolute worst. Being able to eat more solid proteins helped me quite a bit and I'm now over that stage, thankfully!
The other thing that has helped me is increasing my protein supplementation (in the form of shakes/bars) so that I am getting in 80-100gms a day. I have had no further issues with feelings of hunger.
My favorites that I regularly use are Whey Gourmet and Designer Whey protein (GNC). I don't eat the bars all the time, but keep a couple in my purse/diaper bag to eat if I'm on the run and there are no sensible choices available to me at the time. I prefer Carb Solutions and Q-Smart by Quaker.
Hang in there, because if you're like me, things will improve once you move past this initial liquids stage.
JME, JMO, FWIW...(and all that)
